The WWII Battles That Forged America’s Military Legacy

Some of the most important battles in American military history were fought during World War II. From the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor to the carrier showdown at Midway and the brutal island fighting at Okinawa, these battles helped turn the United States into the dominant military power of the postwar world.

Many of these operations tested America’s industrial strength, introduced new forms of warfare, and shaped the battlefield legacy still tied to the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Army Air Forces today.
