Europe’s Biggest Military Outnumbers France, Germany, and Britain Combined

Europe’s defense landscape has changed dramatically in recent years, shaped by NATO commitments, the war in Ukraine, rising global tensions, and renewed questions about how much responsibility European nations should carry for their own security. While countries like France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are often viewed as the continent’s leading military powers, one European force is larger than all three combined by total personnel.

For this ranking, History Computer reviewed Global Firepower’s Military Strength Ranking to compare the largest armed forces in Europe by total military personnel. The analysis also considers broader indicators of military capability, including aircraft fleets, ground vehicles, naval assets, defense resources, and overall PowerIndex scores. Russia is excluded from this list.
