The Most Influential Handguns in U.S. Military History

From the revolvers carried by nineteenth century cavalry to the modular sidearms issued to today’s service members, American combat handguns have evolved alongside the nation’s military. Each generation of pistols reflects the changing demands of warfare and the needs of the troops who carried them. A select group of these firearms stands out for the lasting impact they had on U.S. military strategy, design standards, and battlefield performance.
