39 Countries With Higher Gun Violence Rates Than the U.S.

Every year, millions of people around the world die from a wide range of causes, with most deaths linked to disease or natural conditions. Violent deaths make up a much smaller share overall, but in certain parts of the world, gun violence remains a significant and growing concern.

Globally, hundreds of thousands of people are killed with firearms each year, with estimates suggesting more than 700 deaths per day tied to gun-related violence. While the global average remains relatively low, some countries experience gun violence rates far above that baseline, often driven by conflict, organized crime, or political instability.

In this slideshow, we take a closer look at the countries with the highest rates of gun violence, using international data to compare how these risks vary around the world and how they stack up against the United States.
