When Roblox was released in 2006, the founders didn’t think it would be a big hit. They simply wanted to make fun games that people could play. Now, almost two decades later, Roblox has over 60 million daily users worldwide and is easily one of the most popular gaming platforms out right now. It wasn’t always that way though, and the 10 oldest Roblox games will show you how the creators started with humble beginnings.
The 10 Oldest Roblox Games
Many of the oldest Roblox games were created by the original Roblox founders and the team when the gaming platform first launched. While some of the following games are no longer available, there are a few that you can play. Here are the oldest Roblox games that we found.
Classic: Rocket Arena
Classic: Rocket Arena was the first game created on the platform, making it the oldest Roblox game ever. Launched in January of 2006, it worked as a free-for-all fighting arena. In 2015, Roblox updated the platform and game functions, making Rocket Arena unplayable because the jet boots stopped working.
Even with the update causing the game to break, Rocket Arena had almost two million visits before the game officially shut down in 2017. While it’s no longer playable, many of the fighting games on Roblox now draw inspiration from it.
Classic Place was another game created by the Roblox team, specifically the co-founder David Baszuck. The entry game was created to show new users how Roblox worked and was the first game that you’d play as soon as you signed up.
When the company first launched, Classic Place was the only game new users (except the Admin team) could play. While other games launched in 2006, it was the introductory game everyone played for a few years. The game was officially retired in 2015 to make way for new updates and offers.
Experience Gravity is part of a handful of original Roblox games that you can still play. Launched on November 21, 2006, the game has had over 17 million visits in the last two decades. It’s a simple game and allows users to “experience gravity” by falling off of a baseplate.
The game only has the baseplate, a sign that shows users what to do, and Roblox’s original gravity. It was updated in 2020 to fit the new Roblox gaming standards and to keep it from glitching. Experience Gravity is also known for the large number of badges it contains, including badges for “meeting the game’s creator,” “falling apart,” and “diving into the sun,” just to name a few.
Base Wars FPS
Created in 2007, Base Wars FPS was the first official first-person shooter game created on the platform. It’s also still playable, with almost one million hits since its launch, but it hasn’t been updated since 2014. If you choose to play, you can do so as different shooters, including a sniper, trooper, healer, and more.
The game is fairly simple to play. After choosing your shooter, you’ll choose a battle server. They include “capture the flag” and “free battle,” depending on what you’d like to do. You’ll also be able to choose your weapon and vehicle. The game is fairly similar to Fortnite and can be played by users nine years old and older.
The game is also uncopylocked. This means that developers can copy it and create their own version to release on Roblox. Some similar games include Armored Patrol v10 and Attrition [RESPAWN UPDATE].
We’d consider Classic: Crossroads as one of the most popular original games still playable on Roblox. Created in 2006 by the Roblox Creative Director at the time, John Shedletsky, the game has had over nine million visits since its launch. The multidirectional shooter was updated as recently as 2017 and even survived Roblox’s shutdown of old games made before 2016.
Classic: Crossroads has a small map to explore, and users are given objectives to help them take out other players not on their team. Players can use different weapons and creative strategies to try to win. It’s a fun game that is recommended for all ages.
Santa’s Winter Stronghold
Santa’s Winter Stronghold was the first Christmas-themed game launched on Roblox, with a release date of December 19, 2006. It had almost 200,000 visits before it was shut down in 2014. The Christmas game was also designed by John Shedletsky and his team.
In Santa’s Winter Stronghold, a player can play as Santa or one of his elves. The main goal of the game was to earn the most points, and users could do this by collecting presents and taking out their opponents. If the player chose Santa, they would unlock two special powers — a multi-rocket and jet boots.
Forest of Desolation (Abyss’s Place)
While the game was never popular, only reaching 716 visits after its release, Forest of Desolation (Abyss’s Place) was the first game created by someone outside of the Roblox team. The game had a crumbling tower in a forest and a spooky atmosphere. It was also super simple, users could only really walk around and view the map.
The name was changed to Abyss’s Place after the creator, user Abyss, was banned from the Roblox platform. It hasn’t been updated since 2009 and is no longer functional, although some newer games have taken it as inspiration.
With over one million visits, Chaos Canyon was a hit game that was released in 2007. The fighting game didn’t have any real objectives. Players were simply dropped onto a map and would fight and box each other. When Roblox updated its playing options in 2015, the game became glitchy and stopped working properly, and it was officially closed in 2017.
However, a new version of the game was created at the end of 2017 by the user Temple of Brickbattle. This version has been updated frequently, with the latest update happening in early 2023.
Air Base Sector 128A
Air Base Sector 128A technically wasn’t a game. The creator, tie it up, built it as a showcase of an airbase. However, users could walk around and check out the air base. It was one of the first obby-type games where you could explore, but players didn’t have any actual objectives.
Air Base Sector 128A was extremely limited, with the map showing a watchtower, sleeping quarters, and towers with cannons. Funnily enough, the stairs in the sleeping quarters were never completed, so users could never get to the top. The game was never updated, and it was officially shut down in 2017 and had just a little over 20,000 visits from the years it was active.
Happy Home in Robloxia!
Happy Home in Robloxia! was a game that started as a template map. It included a beige brick house and users could use it as a way to build their own homes. Players could copy, delete, move, and edit the map as they built their own creations.
The game was updated in 2010 and extended the template to help people create their first car, too. During this update, the creator also added a river that you’d get stuck in and a canyon that had an elevator. Happy Home in Robloxia! had over one million visits before it was closed in 2017. It was officially removed from Roblox, but many recreations have popped up since that year, including the re-uploaded ROBLOX: Happy home in Robloxia! game.
