The VW ID.4 is a compact electric vehicle released in 2021, quickly becoming a favorite among environmentally-conscious drivers. It’s one of the most technologically advanced vehicles on the market, and it’s got all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a $42,000 or more car — including autonomous driving capabilities and an entertainment system with a touchscreen display.
The ID.4 has several unique features that set it apart from other EVs on the market. For one, it’s the only electric vehicle in its class to have a folding mechanism for its rear seat, which makes it easier to transport cargo or fold it up if you need increased cargo space.
The ID.4 debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show to not overshadow the German brand’s first electric mass-market vehicle, the ID.3. On September 23, 2020, the production version was unveiled globally. Unlike ID.3, which was primarily aimed at the European market, ID.4 included the North American region as one of its primary markets.
The electric SUV is currently only available with rear-wheel drive and an electric motor mounted at the back axle; an all-wheel-drive variant with two motors will be released later. The radiator and some of the air conditioning system’s components are situated behind a low air inlet on the front of the vehicle.
Wheel sizes range from 18 to 21 inches. RWD vehicles come equipped with roof rails as standard and have a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) when braked.

VW ID.4: Key Features
The Volkswagen ID.4 is a compact SUV that was introduced in 2021. It offers a wide range of features that make it one of the most versatile vehicles on the market today.
However, several different versions are available for purchase, like many other vehicles. Let’s take a look at what makes each model unique.
Technology
The ID.4 is jam-packed with fantastic technology. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity are standard (although you can still plug in if you like), and several USB-C ports are available. A location designated for wireless phone charging is also available.
The internal navigation system is fairly good and simple to use if you don’t like using smartphone integration for navigation. The sound system isn’t amazing, but that’s the only drawback.
This model has many of the same standard features as the previous one. It also adds many more previously unavailable features, such as the all-wheel drive system. Other useful features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Design
The design of the new VW ID.4 is slightly different from the old one, but there are still many similarities. The most obvious difference is the size: while the new ID.4 is longer and wider, it also weighs slightly less.
Some people have had trouble finding their way around the interior of this car. Others have found it to be very spacious and comfortable inside, especially in comparison to its predecessor.
Another significant difference between this car and its predecessor is that it has a more modern look, which makes it easier to recognize as an upscale vehicle for daily use. The colors are also slightly different from previous models, making them much more appealing to potential buyers looking for a different style.
Range and Efficiency
The EPA estimates the range of rear-drive ID.4s to be 250 miles for the Pro trim and 260 miles for the Pro S. The range of the dual-motor all-wheel-drive vehicles has been marginally decreased. In this instance, the EPA estimates that the Pro will travel 249 miles and the Pro S will travel 240 miles.
Public Response
The public response to the new VW ID.4 has been overwhelmingly positive. The vehicle is a hit with consumers, who love its futuristic design and high comfort level. The ID.4 also performs well on the road and in the snow, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants a fun-to-drive vehicle that won’t be difficult to park or drive in inclement weather.
