USA Network: What You Need to Know
The USA Network may not be as trendy as it once was, but the channel has been around since 1977. It was incredibly popular in the 80s and 90s, thanks to shows like Night Flight, Cartoon Express, and the classic Up All Night, which ran in some form from 1989 until 2002.
The USA Network logo and the channels’ ownership have changed numerous times since its inception. While they haven’t produced as much memorable content as channels like HBO, they have brought countless classics into the world. Monk, Mr. Robot, Burn Notice, Suits, and Psych and Silk Stockings are a few of the popular shows brought into the world through USA Network.
USA Network still has a presence with cable companies and cord-cutters alike, but they are somewhat overshadowed by the large streaming services. That’s due in part to the network’s parent company, NBCUniversal, aka Comcast, which also owns Sky, DreamWorks Animation, and Xumo.
USA Network Programming
The USA Network provides viewers with a mix of content. There are sports, movies, and original programming, although the latter has been on the decline in recent years. Given the wealth of content from their parent company, you can expect to find plenty of content from NBC Universal as well.
Like all cable networks, you can find syndicated programming on USA along with movies new and old. USA Network doesn’t have a massive catalog of content at this time, but they certainly have a niche. Some of their current options for 2023 include NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, 9-1-1, Chicago Fire, Dateline, Chicago P.D., and Law & Order SVU.
USA Network Originals
One of the last remaining originals from Syfy and USA is Chucky, based on the classic character from the Child’s Play films. The series airs on Syfy and USA Network, with new episodes appearing on Peacock soon after.
The network has several reality shows and game shows like Barmageddon and Temptation Island, which they brought back to life from Fox. The company currently only has a handful of new original series in the works, although it’s unlikely we’ll see anything on par with TV shows like Mr. Robot or The Sinner anytime soon.
USA Network Sports
USA Network has long been associated with wrestling, but you can also find a mix of other sports on the channel. Racing, golf, and college basketball are options, along with Olympic coverage and various events through NBC.
The main sports draw for USA network subscribers is the WWE, however. WWE Raw is a flagship property, and while it’s bounced around over the years, it’s a significant attraction. Wrestling fans can enjoy WWE NXT and a variety of events throughout the years as well.
USA Network Sister Channels
The parent company of USA Network is NBC Universal, which is owned by Comcast. NBC is a division of Comcast, just like the Sky Group. There are no sister channels directly tied to USA Networks. There are a number of stations related to the channel through NBC Universal, however.
E! is arguably the most popular option outside the standard NBC network or news channels like CNBC and MSNBC. Universal Kids falls under that category, along with Bravo, Oxygen, and the Syfy network. Syfy and USA have shared a lot of content over the years including Chucky. Oxygen and Bravo are aimed at different audiences by comparison.
