The History of USA Network

USA Network officially aired in 1977 as the Madison Square Garden Sports Network. From the beginning through the first 20 years, CEO Kay Koplovitz ran the channel. It was one of the first national cable television channels, and also one of the first to rely mainly on advertising revenue. By 1978, the network also added children’s programming.

The name was officially changed to USA Network in 1980 and is now known by its shortened name USA. In recent years, the channel has also added movies, reality TV shows, and more to its main lineup. Of course, it still showcases sports, including WWE, but it also has other shows available.

While USA Network has been owned by many different companies over the years, it is currently owned by NBCUniversal.
