Recognizing the potential for economic growth, the state of Delaware has invested state and federal funds in upgrading the telecommunications infrastructure including a fiber optic cable backbone that is expected to run the length of the state.

Delaware has a lot of options for high-speed internet connectivity, which is great news if you’re looking for a new internet provider.

In this article, we’ll help you get connected in Delaware by sharing the 12 top internet providers in Delaware. Read on to discover them!

1. Xfinity

Comcast is one of the largest cable providers in the U.S. and Delaware’s leading ISP. Comcast’s Xfinity internet services include cable and fiber options along with television, cellar, and landline packages. The availability of fiber coverage means that Xfinity packages can deliver internet speeds of up to 2Gbps.

In Delaware, Xfinity offers at least 8 plans starting at $29.99 per month. The promotional pricing is for new customers. If you are an existing customer, you will need to renegotiate a new contract otherwise prices will rise.

Packages include Wi-Fi equipment, but it’s important to note that most packages have a 1.2 terabyte cap, though it’s unlikely that a single household could exhaust this amount of data in a month!

Top 12 Internet Service Providers in Delaware FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What percentage of Delaware residents have access to broadband internet?

As the 9th most connected state in the country, 96% of Delaware residents can access broadband internet from at least one ISP. Options for internet connectivity are diverse and include DSL, fiber, cable, fixed wireless, cellular, and satellite connectivity.

What is the state of Delaware doing to improve internet access?

Delaware is currently using federal funding to improve its broadband infrastructure through a variety of programs. Comcast, Verizon, and Mediacom will connect over 4,000 Delaware addresses to high-speed internet as part of a broadband strategy that includes rural fixed wireless internet and a high-capacity wireless backbone that will run the length of the state in 2022.

Which companies provide internet in Dover, DE?

In Dover, DE, Xfinity, Verizon FiOS, and AT&T are the main ISPs. As the capital of Delaware, it’s understandable that Dover has almost complete fiber, DSL, and cable connectivity from a range of providers.

How many Delaware residents do not have internet access?

Over 11,000 households and businesses do not have internet connectivity. They are mainly in unserved areas which include New Castle County (450 homes), Kent County (3,800 homes), and Sussex County (7,350 homes).

What is DSL?

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) internet is the most common form of broadband internet in the U.S. It’s delivered through your copper telephone line and requires a modem. If a property has a landline, an ISP can provide DSL internet using it.

What is fixed wireless internet?

Fixed wireless internet is broadband internet connectivity that is delivered via a point-to-point link between antennas rather than cable, DSL, or fiber. This type of internet requires the setup of multiple transmission towers with a line of site between them. The ISP can then transfer data at speed between the antennas. An established fixed link provides reliable connectivity and is unaffected by the weather. Fixed link wireless internet is a great solution for rural or inaccessible areas and often has lower operational costs than leasing cable or fiber.
