The History of TNT
TNT officially launched on October 6, 1987. The founder, Ted Turner, officially named it Turner Network Television, and the network was his fifth basic cable channel venture. At the time, he also owned CNN, TBS, Headline News (now HLN), and Cable Music Channel (now defunct).
TNT saw many expansions and acquirements between the years of 1990 and 2010. Since its conception, the network has been sold three different times and is now owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. It has also been rebranded a few times, starting with adding sports in 1995 and shifting to drama shows in 2001.
As of 2023, TNT only has two original scripted series — Animal Kingdom and Snowpiercer. These two shows are no longer creating new episodes, but their reruns are still available for viewing.
