Between Star Wars and LEGO, you have two of the biggest names in the toy and entertainment industry coming together to make something people of all ages can enjoy. As part of the Star Wars universe, LEGO has gone all-in building dozens of sets, and within those sets, you will find minifigs, or the name LEGO uses for its characters. Tiny in stature but mighty in fun, LEGO minifigs generally stand around 1.7 inches in height, though their height varies based on the character and specific LEGO set.

Based on the original trilogy, these sets were introduced to coincide with the theater release of The Phantom Menace. The very first Star Wars set was an X-Wing fighter, but no X-Wing could be complete without a LEGO minifig to help pilot the Rebellion starfighter and take out the Death Star.

Why Are Minifigs Popular?
With more than four billion minifigs in existence thanks to LEGO’s popularity, it’s no surprise that minifigs have become increasingly popular on their own. Minifigures can be purchased separately but they are generally found within individual LEGO sets and can be customized in a variety of ways to best match each set’s theme. A minifig’s popularity is often based on its level of customization, which is often the reason some minifigs are rarer than others. LEGO has been known to produce limited quantities of various minifigs in order to make them more collectible, especially around popular sets like Star Wars.
C-3PO Chrome Gold
- LEGO C-3PO
- Includes the red arm from The Force Awakens
- Stands 1.7 inches tall
- LEGO number 5002948
Created as part of a 30th-anniversary celebration for Star Wars, this chrome gold C-3PO counts as the rarest Star Wars minifig of all time.
Only 10,000 were ever produced and were randomly placed in 2007 Star Wars LEGO sets available at retailers all over the world. Because of its rarity, the website Brick Ranker has placed a value on it of right around $1,600 as of May 2023. Over the last 6 months, there have been more than 19 separate sales of the chrome gold C-3PO with two of those being in mint condition.
In the likely situation you don’t want to spend $1,600 on a Star Wars C-3PO minifig, you can grab a less expensive option from Amazon. Featuring C-3PO from The Force Awakens, including its red arm, you can find this minifig for under $20 with Prime delivery.

Yuletide Squadron Pilot
- X-Wing replica set from the original Star Wars movie

- Step-by-step building instructions
- The perfect gift for anyone 9+
One of the more famous LEGO Star Wars minifigs, the Yuletide Squadron Pilot was part of a Christmas X-Wing set that was given out to LEGO employees.
It’s estimated that less than 20,000 units were produced when the unit was handed out in 2019. The red X-Wing is a fantastic combination of both Star Wars as well as seasonal elements comprising 1,038 pieces. Along with the X-Wing and the Yuletide Squadron Pilot, the LEGO set also included Yoda in an elf costume and R2-D2 acting as the pilot’s robotic wingman. Celebrating 20 years of LEGO Star Wars with this set must have been a real joy to employees and we can only hope it’s a set LEGO brings back in the future.
However, since purchasing the Yuletide Squadron Pilot minifig costs around $500 based on the latest sales from Brick Ranker, stick to a newer X-Wing LEGO set from Amazon.
