What are the best Nerfs of all time? Nerf has made quite a name for itself by providing fun and addictive collectible blasters for kids and adults alike. With so many on the shelves, it can be tough to pick out which are the best to pick up.

Thankfully, there are seven great choices to get your Nerf collection started. Whether you’re just looking to collect or building up Nerfs for your friends and family, these should have you well sorted.

So, suit up and make ready, it’s time to see which Nerfs are the best around.

There are dozens if not hundreds of Nerfs to choose from, so it can be difficult to choose the best overall for you. The great thing about Nerfs is they are available for a whole slew of different scenarios. Not every player is after range, just like every player isn’t solely after rapid-fire functionality.

As such, you might find your collection needs to have a few of each type to best perform and make for great play sessions. Here is our list of the best Nerfs of all time.

The Mega Tri-Break is the best overall choice for good reason. It is mechanically simple, quick to learn, and just straight-up fun to use.

There are three individual barrels on this blaster, each holding a single Nerf dart. To reload the blaster, you just need to break open the action and slot in your three whistler darts. What makes this one of the best Nerfs of all time is just the simplicity of its operation.

Others certainly can bring more to the fore, but this one is quick and simple for beginners to learn while also being reliable for everyday play sessions.

Reloading darts is absolutely sublime, too, thanks to the break-action mechanism. The only real complaint is you’ll have to prime it for each dart, which cuts down on how many you can sling out at a given time.

ProsCons
It is easy to operate. It has limited capacity.
This Nerf has a cool break action operation. It has a lower overall firing range.

If you need a Nerf for every scenario, the Modulus Recon MKIII has your back. What makes the Modulus Recon MKIII so decidedly unique is it transforms to fit your needs. Imagine having four blasters in one, and you’re at the core of what makes the Modulus Recon MKIII so great.

It comes with a removable stock and barrel extension, meaning you can tailor it for long-range dart slinging or up close and personal battles.

It also comes with a 12-dart clip, meaning you’re never short on capacity. The Modulus Recon MKIII does use the more expensive Elite darts, which will be common in this list.

What makes it one of the best Nerfs of all time is just its modularity and the ability to shoot darts up to 90 feet. The cool looks and included dart shield are just icing on the cake really.

ProsCons
This Nerf transforms for all scenarios. It uses the more expensive Elite darts.
It has a superb range. The dart shield can obstruct your aim.

If you’re after a portable Nerf with capacity, the Hail-Fire is hard to beat. The Hail-Fire is an older model, so prices will vary for one that’s new. However, if you’re patient you can score these below $200. All that aside you get a massive 144 darts to sling around.

Hail-Fire owners can use the older style of darts, which are thankfully a good bit cheaper. This one doesn’t have the hard-hitting power of something like the Modulus Recon MKIII. That said, there is certainly something to be said about volume instead of precision.

ProsCons
This Nerf has the highest capacity of any production blaster. You’ll need to buy additional accessories to reach the full capacity.
It uses the more universally found Nerf darts. You’ll find loading this thing to be quite time-consuming.

For compact fun, the Elite Triad EX-3 is hard to beat. Sure, the huge Nerf blasters look great and pack a lot of punch, but smaller Nerfs are easier to hide. That’s where the Triad EX-3 excels. You get access to three of the Nerf Elite darts in a tidy little package.

This makes for a great backup Nerf or a starter for someone just beginning with Nerf play. It lacks some of the niceties of more expensive Nerf blasters, but there is certainly quite a bit to enjoy about the Elite Triad EX-3. It might lack a 90-foot range, but it certainly still packs a punch.

This compact little blaster is one of the best Nerfs of all time just thanks to its simple ease of use. Its compact size is just an added bonus.

ProsCons
This Nerf is super compact. It has a limited capacity.
Despite the small size, it has a fairly decent range.Cocking lever is in an awkward location.

The best choice for Nerf beginners is the Elite Disruptor. When purchasing one of these, you get two blasters and twelve darts, more than enough for a bit of fun with a friend or sibling.

These handheld Nerfs certainly aren’t lacking in power, as they’re capable of firing Elite darts up to 90 feet per shot. That means you get a blaster that looks great but also packs the same sort of potent punch as the Modulus Recon MKIII.

This is a great way to enter into the world of Nerf but be warned, they accumulate quite quickly if you let them. What makes this one of the best Nerfs of all time is that it is tailored for kids and adults just looking to get into blasters.

ProsCons
The package comes with two blasters. You’ll have to cock the blaster for each shot.
Each blaster has a superb firing range. It uses the more expensive Elite darts.

If you’re wanting to pelt your pals with a slew of darts, the Vulcan EBF-25 is the way to go. This discontinued blaster is still readily found and can be had for under $100 if you don’t mind one with a little wear and tear.

What you get is 25 darts in a super cool belt. The Vulcan EBF-25 is made for rapid fire, firing three darts every second. That is a massive 180 darts per minute, which is a fire rate that some of the more modern Nerf blasters struggle to meet.

If you don’t mind hunting a little bit, the Nerf Vulcan EBF-25 will make sure you’re just littering your yard with Nerf darts in very short order.

ProsCons
This Nerf has the fastest firing rate of any production Nerf blaster. It can run through all 25 darts in seconds flat.
The belt feed is one of the coolest loading mechanisms around. It is no longer in production, so your best bet is second-hand.

If you’re looking to reach out and touch someone, the AccuStrike RaptorStrike is the best choice. This Nerf is built for precision and comes with special darts from the Accustrike series.

It offers a novel action, using a pull-back bolt to load darts from the clip into the barrel. You’ll find your aim is a little more true with the AccuStrike RaptorStrike, thanks to it being built for precision.

This might be the last on this list, but it is certainly one to look for if you value a single well-aimed dart over slinging them everywhere.

ProsCons
It is one of the most accurate Nerfs in production. It uses the expensive AccuStrike darts.
The bolt action loading mechanism really makes you feel like a sniper. It has a very specialized use case that might not be suited for rougher outdoor play.

So, what should you know when choosing a Nerf? It really comes down to what sort of playstyle you’re looking to cultivate during your sessions. It’ll really come down to a handful of factors which are as follows:

  • Capacity
  • Size
  • Range
  • Rate of Fire

Now, for most folks just getting started out you’ll want to get a beginner-friendly package like the Elite Disruptor box set. Other users will find it best to just pick and choose what they’d like.

Using a Nerf Blaster: What it’s Like

So, how do you use a Nerf blaster? It’s generally a pretty simple operation; you load up darts, cock the action, and depress the trigger. Some blasters need special additional steps, like loading darts into the clip or belt.

The general concept remains the same, however. You just need darts, a blaster, and friends or stationary targets to have some fun.
