June 8, 2023 — Following a similar announcement by Ford on May 25, 2023, General Motors (GM) announced that it will adopt Tesla’s North American charging plug standard. According to GM’s CEO Mary Barra, this move, which will give GM electric vehicle owners the ability to charge at 12,000 of Tesla’s charging stations, “…could help move the industry toward a single North American charging standard.”
At the start of 2024, GM EV owners will be able to use an adaptor to charge at Tesla’s Superchargers. Starting in 2025, both GM and Ford’s EVs will be equipped with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard connector.
