The Samsung 55″ Odyssey Ark 2nd Gen is arguably the best large monitor for PC you can buy this year, whether you need a monitor for professional use or gaming.

Its greatest highlight isn’t only the big size, but the 4-input multi-view design that allows you to connect and see up to four different inputs at once. Thanks to this feature, you can connect multiple computers to a single monitor and control them all with the same mouse and keyboard. Alternatively, you can play games on your computer and gaming console at the same time.

Another highlight is the groundbreaking rotating screen that allows for seamless gaming in cockpit mode. A high refresh rate of 165Hz also eliminates lag and ensures smooth transitions in action-packed scenes. Gamers will also like the 1ms response time that minimizes ghosting and ensures blur-free frames.

Furthermore, the 1000R curvature of the monitor provides maximum immersion. Samsung also equipped this monitor with state-of-the-art audio (even though this feature drives the price up). The only downside is the lack of clear installation instructions and the stand that offers very few adjustments.

ProsCons
This monitor allows you to connect four input sources at the same time. The stand offers very few adjustments for a monitor this size.
A high refresh rate and response time minimize ghosting and lag.
The monitor comes with built-in audio.

The Samsung 57″ Odyssey Neo G9 is not only the biggest computer monitor currently on the market, but it is also the world’s first dual-UHD monitor.

In other words, you get a display that’s as wide as two 4K monitors placed side-by-side. This feature allows you to enjoy incredible detail and sharp pictures. It is useless to say the 57-inch diagonal delivers an ultra-wide field of view, that you can see at a glance thanks to the 1000R curvature.

The picture quality is further enhanced by the Quantum Matrix technology. Similar to Samsung TVs, this monitor is lit by mini LEDs and has thousands of local dimming zones. This design improves contrast by delivering almost perfect blacks, meaning you can see a lot more detail in shadows and darker scenes — which can ultimately elevate your gaming experience.

Gaming-wise, we also like the 240Hz refresh rate and the 1ms response time. You won’t have to worry about lags or ghosting, while the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro provides extra power to enhance your competitive edge.

We also like the 32:9 aspect ratio that makes it easy to split the monitor into multi-view zones. Other highlights include Core Lighting+ technology that projects the color on your screen into the real world, for a truly immersive experience. On the downside, the monitor isn’t fully compatible with Mac systems, so you might have to keep adjusting the settings each time you turn your computer on.

ProsCons
This is the largest computer monitor currently on the market.Might have compatibility issues with some systems.
The mini LED display offers superb image quality.

If you want a big screen but aren’t too fond of curved monitor designs, the LG 48” Ultragear UHD Gaming Monitor could be the right choice for you.

Its greatest highlights include the flat design, the 4K resolution, and the 16:9 aspect ratio. All these features combined make it perfect for productivity and pro gaming alike. Despite its flat screen, the monitor still provides a 178-degree viewing angle.

The variable refresh rate is nice but somewhat disappointing, as it only goes up to 138Hz (120Hz by default). That said, we like the OLED panel that delivers infinite contrast and true-to-life colors. We also like that it is fully NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium compatible. These features ensure you’ll never miss a game frame, giving you a competitive edge.

Other highlights include DTS Headphone:X, which provides accurate spatialization and 3D localization over headphones while playing games. It also supports various types of audio, including scene-based and object-based.  The biggest flaw is the unintuitive setup. Also, changing the settings when the remote control is unresponsive is a bit of a hassle.

ProsCons
Despite its large size, this monitor has a 4K resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio.Unintuitive setup.
The OLED panel ensures outstanding image quality.
Optimized for 3D audio over headphones.

If you want more than 4K from your large screen, the LG 49″ UltraGear DQHD Curved Gaming Monitor could be the best one for you.

This monitor features a 5K resolution (5120 x 1440p) and boasts a curved design and 32:9 aspect ratio. The massive screen real estate is perfect for casual gaming when you want to see as much of the playfield at once as possible. Splitting the screen for a 16:9 aspect ratio (which is the standard for most competitive gaming) is a cinch.

You also get a 240Hz refresh rate, which is more than enough to prevent stutters and lags. Like most gaming monitors, this model has a 1ms response rate. It also comes with a built-in AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

We particularly like the on-screen controls allowing a smooth transition from full-screen to side-by-side and picture-in-picture mode. The VESA DisplayHDR 1000 also offers impressive peak brightness, great contrast, and almost true-to-life colors.

Game-centric features include hexagon backlighting for a more immersive experience, and a three-side virtually borderless display. Adjusting the height and tilt of the monitor is also easy, and you get a 4-pole headphone jack for audio and mic support.

ProsCons
The 5K resolution delivers clear images with lots of details. It has a lower picture quality compared to OLED and mini LED monitors.
On-screen controls allow for an easy transition to picture-in-picture or split-screen mode.
The monitor boasts a variety of game-centric features.

While all large monitors are expensive, the Asus ROG Strix 49” is a good choice if you don’t want to compromise on size but would like to save a buck.

Whether you need it for gaming or productivity, the dual-full-HD resolution (3840 x 1080p) and 32:9 aspect ratio allow for easy screen splitting. Like all products in the ASUS ROG lineup, this monitor is designed specifically for gaming.

Game-centric features include adaptive sync with both NVIDIA and AMD Radeon graphics cards. It also has plenty of ports for easy connectivity to HDMI and DisplayPort devices. Moreover, the monitor comes with both a stand and a VESA mount kit for easy placement.

The picture quality isn’t the greatest out there, but we couldn’t expect more than DisplayHDR 400 in this price range. ASUS makes up for it with lots of picture adjustment settings, including color modes and exclusive gaming overlays. The viewing angles are also not that great, but all in all, it is a good choice if you don’t want to break the bank.

ProsCons
The 32:9 aspect ratio makes it easy to split the screen for picture-by-picture use.It could have had wider viewing angles.
Specific color modes for gaming.
The monitor comes with a VESA mount kit and a stand.

How to Pick the Best Computer Monitors

When selecting your preferred monitor, it’s important to make the following considerations:

  • Display technology
  • Resolution
  • Size
  • Ports
  • Refresh rate
  • Additional features

Let’s review each one in more detail.

Display Technology

Different kinds of screen technologies power different kinds of computer monitors. However, the technology behind our screens has come a long way recently, with OLED, LCD, and LED displays becoming increasingly popular. Compared to other display technologies, OLED outperforms them all.

Resolution

Before making a purchase, evaluate the screen’s resolution and the technology it uses. The resolution of a monitor controls how many individual pixels can be displayed simultaneously. For example, 4K resolution refers to the number of pixels displayed on a computer screen. Ultra-high definition (UHD) alludes to this technology’s capacity to create images with extraordinary sharpness and depth of field.

The resolution you need depends on how you will be using your monitor.  For instance, a lower resolution will suffice if you use it primarily for office work or browsing the internet. However, a higher resolution is necessary if you want to use your monitor for gaming or watching movies.  Most monitors nowadays have a 1080p resolution, which is full HD. 4K resolution is becoming more common, but it is not yet necessary for most users.

Size

Screen sizes vary significantly in the computer world. Some are relatively short, ranging in length from 17 to 40 inches. The display’s diameter determines the screen size.

Large-screen computer monitors are superior to small-screen monitors. The notable disadvantage of a large computer monitor is its cost. It’s hardly unexpected that they’re more expensive than standard-sized computer monitors. You can buy several medium-sized ones for the same price as one large computer display.

Ports

When choosing a computer monitor, you should examine port considerations. Every modern monitor includes at least one display port. Simply put, it’s a socket where the cable connecting the screen to the computer is inserted. Most current computer monitors have many inputs, including Digital Visual Interface (DVI),  High-Definition Multimedia Input (HDMI), and DisplayPort (DP).

Refresh Rate

The refresh rate is an important feature to consider when purchasing a computer monitor. The number of times an image is displayed on a computer screen in a given second is referred to as the refresh rate. A 144-hertz (Hz) refresh rate LCD monitor is updated 144 times per second, whereas a 60Hz refresh rate panel is updated 60 times per second.

Additional Features

A few features can make your life easier when purchasing a computer monitor. An adjustable stand lets you position the screen at eye level, which is more comfortable for long periods of time. Built-in speakers eliminate the need for external speakers, and multiple input options allow you to connect different devices to your monitor.
