There is no shortage of amazing streaming subscription platforms out there today, and one of the best — as well as one of the newer entries to the streaming competition — is Disney+. The media platform has emerged as a repository of countless hours of content and a great (often more “kid-friendly”) alternative to Netflix. But it’s not just geared toward the kiddos; Disney+ airs plenty of best-selling shows and hours of content for the grownups, too. The Mandalorian tends to reign supreme when it comes to network popularity, and continues to earn the title of Disney+ “most-watched series.” You can have access to that and oodles of other content if you are willing to pay the monthly price of membership (what, did you think the service would be free?).

For its affordable price, the streaming platform has a ton of shows available. Here’s a look at which ones come for free with a membership, and which ones (free or not) you absolutely must stream on Disney+!

#10: Boy Meets World

Get ready for a nostalgic high. A staple of the 1990s, Boy Meets World aired for seven seasons and 158 episodes, featuring stars Ben Savage, William Daniels, Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, and Will Friedle. Ben Savage starred as Corey Matthews, and the show followed his experiences in middle school, high school, and college, including his adventures with his family, friends, and eventual wife, Topanga. The show was a wildly popular 1990s TGIF sitcom (with a classic sitcom running time of 21 to 23 minutes), which later turned into a brief spin-off called Girl Meets World.

#9: DuckTales

It’s almost impossible to say “Duck Tales” without adding the “Wooooo!” that appeared in the opening theme song.

This cartoon first aired in 1987, but it stands the test of time and features the adventures of Huey, Dewey, and Louie, three brothers who live with their Uncle, Scrooge McDuck. Each episode (there are 100) follows the three brothers as they get into trouble and various adventures while trying to protect their Uncle’s fortune — which everyone seems to want!

The show was voiced by Alan Young, Russi Taylor, Chuck McGann, and others.

#8: Doug

This classic cartoon defined childhood for many “90s kids.” It featured Doug Funnie and his wacky family and friends, including his best friend Skeeter, dog Porkchop, bully Roger, and unrequited crush, Patti Mayonnaise. The series depicts the mind of an awkward teen via fantasy sequences and exaggerated experiences that still resonate with viewers to this day.

Doug actually had two iterations: One on Nickelodeon and one on ABC, the latter of which featured a new little brother. But the original iteration was a key part of the Nick Toons series that aired on the Nickelodeon network in the early 90s, making it a childhood staple for many who grew up in that time period. Its running time was about twenty-three minutes, but the show always aired with two back-to-back episodes.

#7: WandaVision

WandaVision is an original Disney series that took the country by storm in 2021. It is one of the many Disney+ shows that took place within the Marvel Universe. This show follows Vision and Wanda Maximoff, two Marvel heroes, who are living a happy suburban life — until, unexpectedly, their life begins to move through multiple television sitcoms. The two must find out what is causing this shift and work with others to regain some normalcy in their lives.

The show has aired for one season and nine episodes, with a second season coming in the future. It stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Debra Jo Rupp, and others. It was both a critical and commercial hit, particularly in its creativity, as the show vacillated wildly between a slew of different and popular television series. Each episode’s running time is between 30 and 50 minutes.

#6: The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Yep. They turned it into a series, and it’s now available to stream on Disney+.

This top-grossing kids’ movie of the 1990s has been turned into a kid’s series starring Emilio Estevez, who reprises his role as Gordon Bombay. It also stars Brady Noon, Maxwell Simkins, and Lauren Graham. The plot is essentially the same as the movie: A group of scrappy, underprivileged, and inexperienced kids comes back to play hockey against the bigger and better-funded Hawks. They are coached by Gordon Bombay, who has now been relegated to the owner of an ice skating rink.

The show is kid-friendly but has enough charm and nostalgia to make it work for adults as well. Its running time varies between 31 and 43 minutes.

#5: The Muppet Show

Looking to exercise your funny bone? Look no further than The Muppet Show. This iconic program — one of the original incarnations of the Muppets on television — aired in the late 70s and early 80s for five seasons. It perfectly intermixed puppets and a variety of real-life guest stars, including musical legends like John Denver and Elton John.

In theory, the show was a “behind the scenes” look at Kermit, Mrs. Piggy, Ralph, Fozzie, and all of the other muppets. It shows the interactions of the muppets as they produced The Muppet Show. At the same time, they had human guest stars who would often become unwitting participants in the insane adventures that the muppets had on the show. It became one of the most-watched muppet programs of all time, a record that holds up even today, and is one of the shows that helped to make the Muppets popular.

The show, which has its share of jokes for adults and kids, had a typical running time of 22 to 26 minutes, making it the ideal program for a quick laugh. Somewhat amusingly, the show is so old that it actually doesn’t have a rating.

#4: Diary of a Future President

Based on the best-selling kid’s book, this show stars Tess Romano, Selenis Leyva, and Charlie Bushnell. The premise is simple: Elena is going to be the President of the United States. The book tells the story of her youth and adventures via the reading of her diary, which is narrated by the adult (and President) version of Elena. It flips back and forth between 13-year-old Elena and adult Elena. The show is meant to show kids that they can truly do anything, and there’s an unabashedly pro-immigration message, as Elena is Cuban-American.

Diary of a Future President had a running time of 22 to 28 minutes per episode and aired for two seasons before being canceled. However, it achieved high ratings and critical praise and continues to offer a sweet and inspiring hit for kids.

#3: Moon Knight

Moon Knight is one of several Marvel-based concepts that has been turned into a successful series available to stream on Disney+. It takes place within the Marvel Universe and revolves around Marc Spector — the Moon Knight. Spector is a mercenary who suffers from Disassociative Identity Disorder (often incorrectly referred to as Multiple Personalities Disorder), and he must balance these personalities while also resolving an increasingly complex and deadly mystery.

The series stars Oscar Issac, May Calamway, and Karim El Kahim, and its running time is 44 to 53 minutes. At the moment, there are only six episodes, and season two has not yet been confirmed, but Disney+ has hinted that the show will be back.

#2: The Simpsons

The Simpsons is one of the most popular cartoons of all time, and you can stream all 32 seasons of this incredible comedy series on Disney+. This best-selling, top-grossing cartoon airs on Fox, which was recently acquired by Disney … hence, the easy access. The legendary series from Matt Groening is the longest-running cartoon of all time and has managed to produce new, fresh content for over four decades. Now, thanks to Disney+, you can watch every episode of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and the entire Simpsons universe. Bored? Watch the Simpsons movie!

The show has a more adult rating (TV-14 for its often raunchy sense of humor) and a running time of 23 minutes.

#1: The Mandalorian

One of the most popular shows in the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian, helped elevate Disney+ to a platform capable of producing big and popular original hits.

The show, sometimes referred to as a Star Wars western, features the adventures of Din Djarin. Djarin is a bounty hunter of the Mandalorian tradition. He is “quested” to return a young child — known as Baby Yoda — to the Imperials. Instead, the Mandalorian flees with Grogu, attempting to return Baby Yoda to his family. The show takes place throughout two seasons and features the Mandalorian’s adventures with Grogu, as well as his encounter with other Star Wars notables.

The show stars Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian. Running time is between 30 to 50 minutes, and Disney+ has confirmed that the program will return for a third season.
