TBS on DISH Network: What You Need to Know
TBS originated as a UHF channel based out of Atlanta, Georgia, in the late 60s. It didn’t take long before the company became known as the SuperStation WTBS, with a bit of help from Ted Turner. They were also the second TV station to transmit through satellite behind HBO.
The channel was available in all 50 states by 1978 with a reach of more than 2 million viewers, but they were just getting started. In 1996, TBS merged with Time Warner and is now wholly owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
While part of their parent company’s massive portfolio of properties, the channel still provides users with original TV series, live sports, and movies from the Warner Brothers family, along with syndicated content.

TBS Programming on DISH Network
Content currently available through TBS consists of a mix of TV shows and movies with a considerable amount of sports mixed in depending on the season. It’s a great way to catch Braves games, and Ted Turner’s affiliation with that organization is well-documented. MLB on TBS has been around for 16 seasons and is still going strong through Warner Bros. Discovery Sports.
NBA games generally end up on TNT, but viewers can watch NHL games with the NHL on TBS along with wrestling. AEW Dynamite moved from TNT in 2022 and airs Wednesdays on TBS. Currently, most of the TV shows are comedic, with daily doses of shows like Young Sheldon, Friends, and the Big Bang Theory.
Classics like Family Matters are also available, and most shows are aired in long 2-4 hour blocks. Mixed in with the TV shows are movies from Disney, Paramount, Warner Brothers, and other major studios.
TBS Original Programming
TBS isn’t as well-known for producing original content as other networks. They’ve had some significant titles in recent years, however. The biggest is arguably Miracle Workers, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi, which has run for four seasons. It’s a fan favorite, and so is American Dad.
TBS rescued the series from Fox for season 12, and the show is in its 20th season on TBS. The network has it locked in for one more season, although the writers’ strike could impact things going forward. Other titles include Lost Resort and Storyville, but there are also originals like Conan, along with unscripted and reality shows.
The Cube is a British import currently airing with Dwayne Wade as the host. There’s also Wipeout, a reboot of the obstacle-based classic from ABC with John Cena, Camille Kostek, and Nicole Byer hosting. I Survived Bear Grylls and AEW All Access round things out for the network at this time.
TBS Sister Stations
TBS is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery and has no true sister stations. TNT is the closest, given the companies’ histories, but the sister stations tied to TBS through Warner are impressive. TruTV is listed on TBS’s official website alongside TNT, but here are a handful of stations related to TBS through WBD.
HGTV, HLN, The Food Networks, and Food Channel are part of the mix, along with Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Boomerang. Other noteworthy networks include The Science Channel, Discovery Channel, MAX, and Motor Trends.
