STARZ on DISH Network
STARZ is a classic premium cable network owned by Lionsgate. They premiered in 1994 and have feeds for both coasts along with a slew of multiplex channels. Nine are included with the STARZ add-on plan with DISH Network, and all but two are broadcast in HD.
STARZ on DISH is $10 per month. That gives you access to the flagship station on both coasts and STARZ Encore East, Edge, Cinema, Comedy In Black, and STARZ Kids & Family. Those channels are completely separate from the ones included in the STARZ ENCORE package, however. You can also access the network through the America’s Top 250 package on DISH or the DISH Movie Pack.
Lionsgate, Universal, and Summit Entertainment are three studios with a heavy rotation on STARZ. The channel has first-run rights to films from these studios, along with sub-runs of popular films from Disney, Castle Rock, Columbia, and others. While Sony switched to Netflix in 2021, you can find new and older movies on the main stations and multiplex channels throughout the day.
The biggest titles air on STARZ East and West through DISH Network. If you appreciate a good indie flick, you’ll want to tune in to STARZ Cinema on channel 353. Edgier content aimed at the 18 to 34-year-old demographic is on STARZ Edge, while STARZ Comedy will tickle your funny bone.
STARZ In Black focuses on African-American entertainment. There’s also a channel dedicated to light-hearted content and family movies with STARZ Kids & Family on channel 356. Fans of film have no shortage of options to choose from, and there’s even more to dig into once you consider their original content.
While a little later to the game than other cable networks, STARZ began to produce original content in the 2000s. The show that put them on the map in many people’s eyes was Spartacus, which starred the late great Andy Whitfield.
The show was popular enough to launch several spin-offs, comic books, and even a video game called Spartacus Legends. Outlander has also been a massive hit for the network. Other hits include Black Sails, Magic City, Heels, Party Down, and Ash vs. Evil Dead. The first season of American Gods was amazing, and there’s also Power, which launched an entire universe.
Three shows are currently part of the Power franchise, including Ghost, Raising Kanan, and Force. Hightown and P-Valley are other originals airing on STARZ, along with the spooky Shining Vale. STARZ currently has a number of shows in production, with even more in development.

Encore was initially a competitor to other subscription networks when it launched in 1991. They focused on older, classic films but were rebranded as STARZ ENCORE in 2016. As you can see from the channel list, the network kept the names and themes of these multiplex channels uniform with STARZ.
The content through STARZ ENCORE on DISH Network mirrors what you’ll find on the main network channels. That means there’s entertainment aimed at African Americans on STARZ ENCORE Black and Westerns on STARZ ENCORE Westerns. It’s one of the few channels that airs classic TV series. Mystery, Classic, and Action deliver content fitting their names.
All of these channels are available in HD except for STARZ ENCORE West, Westerns, and Suspense. STARZ ENCORE is not available through any of DISH Networks plans; you can only pick it up through an add-on package.
