CES 2023 has come and gone and in its wake, there are some wonderful and unusual new developments in the electric vehicle space. Some of the concepts debuted are iterations and refinements of previous production models.
Other concepts instead throw everything at the wall and resemble something more akin to science fiction than a commercially available vehicle. For gear heads and prospective buyers alike, CES 2023 was a treasure trove for auto manufacturers new and old to show what they are working on.
Electric vehicles are still in their infancy, but they appear to be maturing at a rapid rate. There are selections for all-terrain, cruising in the city, and some that could effectively function as a home theater if they weren’t on wheels.
What New EVs Were Debuted at CES?
CES always brings some exciting developments, and this year’s was no different. Some novel electric vehicles debuted and are as follows:
- Ram 1500 Revolution
- GMC Hummer
- Vinfast VF7
- Volvo EX90
- Peugeot Inception
Ram 1500 Revolution

Ram‘s first foray into the electric truck game has been revealed. The Ram 1500 Revolution seems to be an evolutionary step forward for electric trucks. Specifications and performance haven’t been revealed. But what was presented at CES 2023 is exciting.
An effective charging rate of 350 kW places this as one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles intended for commercial production. Its improved charging rate means drivers can expect to coax out 100 miles of driving range within a 10-minute charge window.

The Ram 1500 Revolution also comes with some wonderful amenities, with a full glass roof and electro-chromatic tinting. Entertainment may not be the first thing that comes to mind for a working truck, but the Ram Revolution also features video projectors intended for media and visual communication.

While many electric vehicle manufacturers seem to be keen on adapting their former gas vehicles, Ram is going in another direction. Speaking of the interior, the Ram 1500 Revolution resembles a luxury vehicle more than a truck.
It also features a novel autonomous driving mode. Shadow mode allows the truck to follow a driver who is walking on foot, following at a safe distance. A sophisticated combination of cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence come together to allow for the moving of the vehicle a short distance without needing to climb in and park it ten feet further.
GMC Hummer EV Pickup

GMC’s latest EV, the Hummer EV Pickup, made an appearance at CES 2023. It continues to build on the already incredible technology. A 14-speaker array provided by Bose gives an immersive sound experience.

The speakers have been tailor-made for the GMC Hummer line specifically. The sun’s glare is no issue with the tintable transparent sky panels. And an equivalent of 1,000 horsepower gives the truck some serious grunt. In addition, the vehicle is built for both work and play.
Super Cruise allows drivers to enjoy hands-free driving. It also allows for safe autonomous driving over 200,000 miles of compatible and mapped roads. 350 miles of drivable range can be coaxed out of a full battery.

This makes it one of the electric trucks with a longer range intended for commercial production. An effective charging rate of 350 kW puts this in line with Ram’s new offering.
The Hummer EV pickup bears a lot of the legacy of the Hummer line. The overall styling is reminiscent of their conventional gas models. There’s a lot to look forward to with this promising electric truck.
VinFast VF7

VinFast is a relative newcomer to the EV market. The VF7 is an exciting look at things to come for the Vietnamese startup. The VF7 is intended to come in two separate models, the Eco and Plus, with their accompanying amenities.
It is a two-row SUV fitting between their VF6 and VF8 models. The VF7 has claimed performance levels of 201 horsepower for the Eco and 349 horsepower for the Plus. It’s a stark performance difference. The intention behind these differences is to provide an affordable electric vehicle at different price points.

The interior choices are cloth upholstery for the Eco model and vegan leather for the Plus model. Entertainment options are varied, with Vinfast providing support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A karaoke app is also available, making for ample entertainment over long road trips.

What isn’t fully known is the vehicle’s performance, more specifically the range and charging rate of the SUV. This isn’t a mark against VinFast. With its initial lineup, it makes sense to play things close to the chest. There has been a need for something in a lesser price range for entry-level EVs, and VinFast might very well fill that niche.
Volvo EX90

The EX90 brings Volvo’s signature safety and reliability to an electric SUV. This particular EV debuted at CES and has some pretty attractive features for people looking for a larger vehicle that is still eco-friendly.
The EX90 has a quoted range of 300 miles on a full charge, an untested range but still fairly generous given the size of the EV. Volvo’s EV seats 7 and has some sophisticated features to protect your passengers.

A fully featured lidar gives a constant stream of information on your surroundings and can help adjust the speed of your driving. High-fidelity audio is provided by tailor-made speakers from Bowers & Wilkins.
3D surround sound is an optional feature you can activate via the infotainment console. Reliable and safe vehicles have been Volvo’s trademark for some time. The EX90 looks to continue that tradition in a high-tech package.
The range could use some work, but given that it seats seven, it’s workable. Out of the concepts that debuted at CES 2023, this one looks likely to hit production in the coming year.
Peugeot Inception Concept

Peugeot’s electric concept, the Inception, was also present at CES 2023. The head-turning concept car is something out of a science fiction film, with sleek futuristic design lines across the 100% electric car.
A tech bar on the exterior allows users to see the battery level of the vehicle, a welcome feature. An atypical steering wheel is present in the interior, being rectangular in shape. The rest of the interior resembles an interstellar starship more than a conventional car.

Peugeot’s Inception Concept is less a production model, and more a statement of intent from the auto manufacturer. 2023 marks Peugeot’s pivot to a 100% electric line of vehicles. Peugeot intends to make itself the premiere electric vehicle company in all of Europe.

While it is a concept, the Inception is a fully functioning electric vehicle. Wireless induction charging allows for 93 miles of range to be added in five minutes. The range of the concept is excellent, with it being capable of driving 500 miles off a single charge.
It is hard to tell what lies next for Peugeot. The sleek design and outstanding performance of the Inception are certainly promising portents of things to come.
Conclusion
CES 2023 brought some wonderful new concepts out for EV fans. While some of these might not ever make it to production, it does bode well for the continued development of electric vehicles. The nascent technology poses a lot of potential benefits over conventionally powered cars and trucks.
One can only imagine where things will go next. If you’re a prospective electric vehicle purchaser, these could pose some interesting possibilities for a future purchase. There are electric vehicles in a variety of niches, and the market is only growing as time goes on.
Electronic Vehicles in the News
The future of electronic vehicles is looking bright and EVs are hitting the headlines more and more as technology progresses. With the demand for EV cars in all shapes and sizes increases, it’s clear consumers will see an ever-growing variety of options to choose.
As recently as April 2023, Ram announced that the Revolution will contain a dual-engine that has a battery pack with an estimated target range of 350 miles and produces 480 horsepower. GMC announced in 2022 that the company looks to up production numbers on the EV pickup from 20,000 units to 30,000 units per year.
Looking Ahead
When it comes to electric vehicles, there’s always an upgrade on the horizon. CES 2023 certainly brought consumers a lot to look forward to in the upcoming years. Hummer, Ram, Volvo, VinFast, and more have new electronic vehicles that will be available in the upcoming years.
Ram and Hummer already have new models on the way that buyers should be aware of when they’re looking for their next electronic pickup. GMC announced the newest version, the Hummer EV 3X, will have a target range of 381 miles and will be released within the next few years. The Ram Revolution EV will be available for purchase toward the end of 2024 and has a starting price around $50,000.
