The Chevrolet Equinox EV is one of the newest players in the electric vehicle industry. While competition is heating up, there are many reasons to believe that this SUV has the potential to become a top seller. Below, we discuss five of the reasons why the Chevrolet Equinox EV is going to be amazing.
What Is the Chevrolet Equinox EV?
The Chevrolet Equinox EV is an all-electric version of Chevrolet’s popular Equinox SUV. Making its way to dealerships in Fall 2023, it represents the company’s commitment to electrification and reducing carbon emissions.
Combining innovative electric technology with the comfort and versatility of the Equinox platform, it offers impressive range, quick acceleration, and zero tailpipe emissions.
One of the primary reasons why consumers shy away from electric vehicles is price. However, there’s good news: the price of EVs is coming down thanks to technological advancements.
You can anticipate the Equinox EV’s starting price to be around $30,000 for the base 1LT model. However, as you move up the model chain, the top-of-the-line Equinox EV will sell for somewhere in the $44,000 range. With this pricing structure, it’s clear that GM wants to sell affordable electric vehicles to the masses.
“We are at a turning point where EVs will be the mainstream choice for the next generation of customers and Equinox EV will lead this charge for us,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors. “With the flexibility of GM’s Ultium Platform, we are bringing to market vehicles at nearly every price point and for every purpose.”
With each passing model year, GM vehicles become packed full of more and more high-tech features. Plus, that’s exactly what you’ll experience in the Equinox EV. Chevrolet aims to make the switch to EVs smooth, offering navigation and route planning via the MyChevy app to help you find charging stations.
You also gain access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s comprehensive charging solution. This makes it easier for you to charge on your time, with access to over 110,000 public charging points in the U.S. and Canada.
Super Cruise, a hands-free driver-assistance technology, is available on select models. It lets you drive hands-free on over 400,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada. Other high-tech features include one-pedal driving and Regen on Demand. Regen on Demand allows you to use a paddle on the back of the steering wheel to control the speed of your deceleration.
The Equinox is also equipped with Chevy Safety Assist. This includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, and Intellibeam auto high beams.
What Is Chevy Safety Assist?
Chevy Safety Assist isn’t exclusive to the 2024 Equinox EV, but it’s a welcome addition that’ll debut in many models in the years to come.
Select Chevy models come equipped with an array of features designed to actively assist drivers in avoiding hazardous situations on the road. Chevy Safety Assist includes the six safety features mentioned above, which provide drivers with enhanced confidence every time they’re behind the wheel.
Automatic emergency braking is a safety feature that uses sensors, cameras, and/or radar to detect an impending collision with another vehicle, pedestrian, or obstacle. It goes hand in hand with front pedestrian braking. This alerts you if you’re at risk of striking a pedestrian and have yet to engage the braking system. It’s similar to forward collision alert, which warns you of an impending accident with another vehicle.
As for lane keep assist with lane departure warning, it’s designed to keep you in your lane of travel and alert you if you begin to “float.” When traveling on the highway, it’s combined with a following distance indicator to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one you’re following.
Finally, Intellibeam auto high beams switch on and off based on conditions and other vehicles to ensure a well-lit view of the road ahead.
Roomy Interior with Advanced Features
From the outside, the interior room might appear to be a problem for the Equinox EV. However, while it may be a compact SUV, the interior is much more spacious than you might expect.
In addition to seating for five passengers, the Chevy Equinox EV boasts 57 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded down. That is plenty of space for hauling groceries, hardware supplies, or luggage for a small family.
The Equinox EV also has a heated flat-bottom steering wheel, heated front seats, heated mirrors, heated outboard rear seats, and ventilated front seats, keeping drivers and passengers comfortable from season to season.
The Equinox also has an 11-inch-diagonal driver information center that comes standard, with an available 17.7-inch diagonal infotainment touchscreen on some trims.
Some models offer customizable ambient lighting as well. This allows you to change the color and intensity of interior lights to suit your preference. Beyond aesthetics, ambient lighting can serve practical functions such as softer lighting for nighttime driving.
Impressive Driving Range
In addition to price, “range anxiety” is another detail that also stops consumers from buying an electric vehicle. As noted above, Chevrolet hopes to ease this stressor through its Ultium Charge 360 system.
Chevy’s 2024 Equinox boasts a 300+ mile range on some trims, powered by GM’s latest Ultium battery technology. This is a big deal when you consider the fact that most vehicles in this price range have a range of no more than 250 miles. The 300-mile range is estimated for the 1LT FWD, the 2LT and 3LT FWD, and the 2RS and 3RS FWD. The range on other trims is estimated to be between 250-280 miles per charge.
Here’s what you can expect in regard to charging times:
- Standard Level 2 (AC) charging at 11.5 kW gives about 34 miles of range every charging hour.
- For the 3RS eAWD, an enhanced 19.2 kW Level 2 (AC) charging option provides up to 51 miles per charging hour.
- Standard DC fast-charging goes up to 150 kW, potentially adding around 70 miles in just 10 minutes.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV boasts a sporty appearance that sets it apart in the electric SUV segment. Its sleek lines and dynamic contours project agility and speed. The aggressive front grille, paired with distinctive LED headlights, gives it a commanding presence on the road.
You’ll also note its aerodynamic design. Not only does this contribute to its sleek look, but it also helps enhance efficiency and performance. Combined with bold alloy wheels and a low profile, the Equinox EV has a clean and modern appearance.
The Equinox is available in Summit White, Black, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, Sterling Grey Metallic, Radiant Red Metallic, Red Hot, Galaxy Grey Metallic, Riptide Blue Metallic, and Riptide Blue Metallic/Summit White. The interior is available in Jet Black or Jet Black/Sky Cool Grey.
This electric vehicle is a testament to Chevrolet’s ability to seamlessly blend performance-driven design with the modern driver’s needs, making it a head-turner in any setting.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV stands out as an exceptional newcomer in the growing electric SUV market. Its blend of innovative technology, affordable pricing, and impressive range positions it as a serious contender.
Notable features such as Ultium battery technology, advanced driver assistance systems, and its spacious yet sporty design make it a desirable option. The Equinox EV’s unique selling points make it a top choice in the fast-growing EV SUV segment.
