Depending on how old you are, you probably remember the Nokia 920 smartphone. It was truly a feat of its time (if only it had the app support of Apple and Android). Aside from the LCD screen, the Nokia 920 was the first smartphone we saw with wireless charging capabilities. Fortunately, other manufacturers caught on and wireless charging pads were born.

Today, we see all sorts of gadgets with wireless charging capabilities. There are three types of wireless charging: A4WP, PMA, and WPC. WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) is the most popular version, and from it came Qi (“Chee”) charging. Qi charging is essentially what we envision when we see wireless charging mouse pads and similar devices.

Fortunately, wireless charging has expanded beyond smartphones to watches, keyboards, mice, and even headphones! As long as your device has the ability to charge wirelessly, a wireless charging mousepad will work for you!

Reasons to Buy a Wireless Charging Mouse Pad

We understand that all our readers have different needs. So, a wireless charging mouse pad may seem enticing, but is it something that you really need? Well, they are incredibly versatile (truth be told you don’t even need a computer to benefit from one), and if you buy a good one, you’ll get a lot of use out of it.

We’ve compiled a short list with all the best reasons to buy a wireless charging mouse pad. Take a look!

Charge While You Work

One of the absolute best reasons to get a wireless charging mouse pad is that it can charge your mouse, phone, keyboard, and headphones all while you work! The real selling point here, though, is the mouse. You can completely rid your life of cords; scroll through Excel documents or explore the Appalachian wasteland in FO76 without having to tap out to change batteries.

This is truly one of our favorite features. A mousepad that charges our mouse while we play! Honestly, we aren’t sure it gets any better than that (maybe wireless charging computers and microwaves that magically manifest food, but those are ideas for another day).

Ease of Use

Your dear author can attest to this one. The ease of use with wireless charging pads reigns supreme. Have you ever had all your cords fall behind your desk? Well, we have, and you only have two options to avoid it. Fasten your cords to your desk, or get a wireless charger.

While Samsung, Apple, and Belkin all have solid phone chargers, they can’t do what the mousepad can. First, the mousepad is much larger. Second, you have to position your tech carefully on smaller chargers and they can still lose connection. If you want to throw your phone down on a big mat and watch the battery charge, go with a mousepad!

Affordable

We spend a lot of money on tech, so an additional expense for something we don’t absolutely have to have can seem burdensome. Fortunately, there are a lot of great options with low price tags.

But we aren’t just looking at what’s affordable, the deciding factor is in the value. If throwing your smartphone on your desk is worth $15 or $20, then there are options in that price range. If you want something that looks incredible, works well, and charges reliably, then go a little higher. No matter your price point, they’re still cheaper than the therapy because you finally lost your mind chasing cords.

Practical

You’ve probably already guessed that practicality was a key selling point for wireless charging pads. But if not, let’s break this one down. We live in 2023. Everything is getting easier and more practical, including charging all of our tech that’s designed to make our lives… well, easier and more practical. You may be new to wireless charging gear, or you’re like most of us who have at least three or four Qi-enabled devices. A wireless charge with a lot of real estate really is the best way to keep everything running.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Picture it, you walk up to your desk and see seven cords strewn all over the top and dangling like vines in the Kokiri forest, except this isn’t Zelda, and the cords are gray, black, and white. Instead of looking at that monstrosity, you can find wireless charging mouse pads in nearly any color and design you’d like.

While the aesthetics of our desk may actually be the least important thing, a great workspace can increase productivity. Also, as mentioned previously, you don’t have to use it on your desk. Wireless charging mouse pads are excellent for an entryway table, a whole-house charging station (a great place for kids to turn in their electronics at night), and more!

Ok, so this is one of the pricier options, but it’s also definitely one of the best wireless charging mouse pads on the market today! The Logitech G PowerPlay is more than just a charging mouse pad. While we wouldn’t recommend using it to charge any controllers, it is pretty great for basic office tech. Next up on our best mouse pads list is the GIM RGB Gamer’s mouse pad. It isn’t an expensive mouse pad, which is an added bonus for our readers who love good bargains. The mousepad is quite large, it’s actually a whopping 800mmX300mm, but it only charges on one side. It has great color options and will match nearly any PC gaming setup. We wish the charging sensors covered more of the mat’s area, but outside of that, it’s a great wireless charging mouse pad that won’t give you buyer’s guilt.

Wrap Up

Of all the computer accessories we can buy today, a wireless charging mouse pad is one of the most useful and versatile options. You can get one just to keep on your nightstand, or get a pricier pad that charges your mouse while you go full metal jacket on COD.

There are a lot of options and price points, but the best wireless charging mouse pads are the ones that work well, look good, and add value to your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are wireless charging mouse pads safe?

For the most part, wireless chargers are safe. They slowly charge your device to prevent any damage. However, leaving a device on a wireless charger for long time periods may cause the battery to overheat or even expand (we don’t recommend squishing it back down, that’s dangerous).

Those of us who use wireless chargers regularly don’t leave our devices on the charger for extended periods of time (more than 8-10 hours at a time).

Which devices will a wireless charging mousepad charge?

Wireless charging capabilities are available on most smartphones and smartwatches these days. However, the feature isn’t available on many other devices and computer peripherals just yet. Before purchasing a device, ensure it is wireless charging capable. Most devices are Qi-enabled, so try to find chargers that say, “Qi” on them, unless you need a different type of charging unit.

How do I know if my mouse can charge wirelessly?

There are a lot of different computer mouse options out there, so it can be difficult to say whether yours can charge wirelessly or not. If you don’t have the original packaging anymore, you can Google the make and model, then look for the Qi charging capabilities.

How do I know if a wireless charging mouse pad is any good?

The best way to discover whether a wireless charging mouse pad is any good is to check the reviews. Of course, there are notable brands like Logitech and Belkin as well that make pretty decent wireless chargers. Another key point for finding a good wireless charging mouse pad is checking whether the company offers a manufacturer’s warranty. If the company offers a warranty, it’s probably pretty good. And in case it isn’t, there’s a warranty to fall back on.

Can a wireless charging mouse pad charge my phone?

For the most part, yes. But the wireless charging mouse pad and your phone must both support the same version of wireless charging.
