The Alienware Aurora R15 is Dell’s take on the pre-built gaming PC. It replaces previous models of the Alienware desktop and still maintains that distinctive and unusual case design. The computers themselves can be found in multiple different configurations across the board. Now, you won’t find any budget-friendly ones necessarily.

However, if you can extend your budget past around $1200, you’re going to get quite a bit of PC for the money. As such, it can make for a wise investment if you’re looking for a gaming PC that is going to be future-proofed for years to come. The R15 comes with GPUs like the RTX 3060 all the way up to the latest flagship GPUs like the RTX 4090 and 7900 XTX.

Reasons to Buy an Alienware Aurora R15

With some of the broader particulars out of the way, here are some of my favorite things about the Alienware Aurora R15. These are solid gaming computers with quite a bit going for them in terms of overall specs. In terms of value for performance, I’d say Dell makes a fairly decent showing for themselves with its gaming brand.

Wide Variety of Configurations

One of the biggest strengths behind the Alienware Aurora R15 is the sheer number of configurations you can find for the computer. These range from the top-of-the-line, most expensive configurations you’ll find to more budget-conscious models. As you can imagine, this lends itself quite well to flexibility when looking at the right sort of Aurora R15 for your usage.

It isn’t uncommon for a PC manufacturer to have multiple models of the same computer. Given that pre-builts are capitalizing on the modular nature of a PC build, this is readily reflected in the flexible configurations seen. The Aurora R15 might not be the most budget-friendly pre-built on the market. However, it will fit a wide range of buyers, which is a definite strength.

RGB Lighting

You’ll find some beautiful RGB lighting in the Aurora R15’s case.

Love it or hate it, RGB lighting is almost synonymous with PC gaming at this point. If you’re looking to get a little extra color in your current setup, the Alienware Aurora R15 has you covered. The unique case design has the RGB lighting directly integrated. This means the choices you make in colors are seen along the case fans and the front of the enclosure.

I know some users aren’t huge fans of RGB, but I love a little dose of color in a computer. I grew up when high-speed gaming PCs of the time were beige cases that sounded like recreational jets being powered on. As such, something cool and colorful was always a welcome choice.

Plenty of Ports

A computer lives and dies by the amount of ports you’ll find on it. Thankfully, the amount of ports on the Alienware Aurora R15 won’t leave you disappointed. You’ve got plenty of inputs for hooking up accessories and other peripherals. The back panel reveals well over 6 USB ports, with a further 3 on the front of the case.

That isn’t counting your display options either, which will greatly depend on your GPU of choice. That said, some users have reported multiple HDMI and DisplayPort options. You’ll be able to run multiple monitors with utter ease on the Aurora R15. Dell seems to really understand the need for plentiful ports on a powerful desktop computer.

Overclocking Support

Now, overclocking isn’t recommended for everyone. If you’re a bit squeamish when it comes to handling BIOS, it might not be for you. However, for any would-be tinkerer who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty, the Aurora R15 offers great potential. Since system configuration is so highly variable with these computers, the exact overhead isn’t universal.

However, Dell has provided some solid processors with overclocking potential. The overall room for an overclock will differ depending on the processor and cooling. That said, the case runs quite cool internally. As such, you might be able to really get a massive boost in performance.

Great Specs

The highest tier of Aurora R15 can come with the RTX 4090.

At the time of this writing, the lowest spec offered comes with an RTX 3050 and Intel i7 13700F. Bumping your budget up $100 nets you the same processor but a more powerful RTX 4060 Ti. Even at the base level provided by Dell, the Alienware Aurora R15 has plenty of power. Pricing can get out of hand fairly quickly, depending on your configuration.

However, even the basic model is going to be more than capable of playing the latest titles. Sure, there are some choices you can make to improve overall performance. The basic models coming with a paltry 8GB of RAM is going to be a sticking point. RAM is cheap to upgrade, especially in the grand scheme of things. I’d gladly purchase the lowest spec one and a 16GB RAM kit and be on my way.

Compact Case Design

One of the real strengths behind the Alienware Aurora R15 is the compact size of its case. Dell’s case design allows for a full-sized desktop computer in a fairly compact case. Sure, it is much larger than some of the mini-ITX cases you’ll see on the market. For something at this form factor, however, it is quite slim and trim.

There is certainly a time and place for larger cases. If you’re looking at building some sort of absolute monster in terms of performance, that could be a fine choice. That said, I think the compact design coupled with all of the other great features makes the Alienware Aurora R15 worth purchasing. It all comes together to make a cost-effective and enticing package for anyone looking at a PC.

Closing Thoughts

The Alienware Aurora R15 is a cost-effective gaming PC with some great features available. With a wide variety of potential configurations, the Aurora R15 is more than capable of handling most workloads you throw at it. If you’re looking for a desktop PC that can crush the likes of Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077, and other big titles.
