However, if you can look past Tesla’s 0-60 mph advantage, you can see why the Porsche Taycan is one of the best-performing electric vehicles on the planet. Porsche has earned its reputation as one of the premier supercar brands and has more than successfully transitioned their knowledge of the combustion engine to the world of electric vehicles.

Let’s look at 10 reasons why you should consider the Porsche Taycan as your next (or first) EV.

You Can Choose Your Look

Part of the appeal of the Porsche Taycan name is that you can choose from a variety of different trim levels and designs. Porsche offers the general name of “Taycan” as its base model, but also offers a Taycan 4S, Taycan GTS, Taycan Turbo, and a Taycan Turbo S. You can also opt to go with the Porsche Taycan as a sedan/hatchback crossover in the form of the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, which has slightly more storage without sacrificing range or performance.

Even if the broad availability of Taycan trim levels might feel overwhelming to new buyers, the ability to choose the type of Porsche you want to drive is part of the appeal of driving this brand. Once you select the body style and trim, you then choose from a multitude of exterior and interior colors to create a Porsche that is an extension of your personal taste.

Goodbye Gas

Of course, one of the primary reasons to pick up the Porsche Taycan is that you will never have to worry about gas again. All totaled, there are 12 different trim levels of the Taycan that offer a range of anywhere between 208 to 246 miles on a single charge. Regardless of which trim you choose and the range available, you never have to worry about fueling up again.

It’s unlikely you’re going to use the Porsche Taycan for lengthy road trips, but for cruising around town or short weekend getaways, the idea that you don’t have to worry about gas ever again is incredibly inviting. It doesn’t hurt that the power of the Porsche Taycan makes driving around town a whole lot of fun.

Standard Goodness

While many car manufacturers often strip their base models down to the bare bones to upsell potential buyers into higher-priced trim levels, Porsche doesn’t play that game. Instead, the base model Taycan shares the exact same platform as its more expensive (and faster) siblings, which includes the same battery unit that helps the Porsche Taycan zoom down the road. For buyers who value simple add-ons like Apple CarPlay or Porsche Connect, these features come standard on the base model Porsche Taycan, which cannot be said for a number of its competitors.

Electric Power

The Porsche name all but demands you talk about speed and performance at some point, and the good news is that the company’s transition to electric power has not hindered the Porsche name in any way. Nowhere does the performance come through more than when you look at the 0-60 times of the hatchback Porsche GTS Sport Turismo, which propels itself from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The fastest trim in the EV Taycan series is the Taycan Turbo, which offers a whopping 670 horsepower that pushes the car from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds flat.

The same strong performance carries over to the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, which runs just one-tenth of a second slower than the Turbo model hitting 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds. The takeaway here is that any concerns that Porsche’s typical supercar performance would be hindered by the transition to electric have been completely disproven.

Storage Galore

There is little doubt the Porsche Taycan is ever going to match the Ford F-150 Lightning in terms of pure storage capacity, but Porsche really considered storage capacity as part of the Taycan build. With the rear seats up, you have 15.8 cubic feet of space available for suitcases, grocery bags, or anything else that might take up cargo space. When you lay the second-row flat, you can extend storage to over 42.8 cubic feet of space, giving the Taycan enough room to fit a few small suitcases for a weekend getaway.

Interior Quality

Porsche has never been shy about wanting to build a vehicle that not just looks good on the outside, but also feels great to drive on the inside. The interior of the Porsche Taycan series is all about refined looks and incredible comfort. As with non-electric Porsche models, the Taycan is full of soft leather and refined metals that look as upscale as the price tag demands.

The main infotainment screen measures up to 10.9 inches in size, which is the ideal size to give you all of the information you need without distracting you from the drive. For the driver, the 16.8-inch curved digital screen even adds touch controls for lighting, which is a nice touch from a brand that is known for these kinds of driver benefits.

One final screen upfront sits below the main infotainment system as an 8.4-inch touch panel to help control air conditioning or for making use of the built-in navigation system. For passengers, the addition of a 5.9-inch touch panel is available when you opt for the four-zone climate control package.

Charging Time

Eat your heart out, Tesla, as the Porsche Taycan excels with charging times, regardless of the trim level or body style you choose. At its very best, the Porsche Turbo Charging feature is available at various Porsche dealers and can help you get an extra 60 miles of range in just 4.5 minutes. When you are at home on a Level 2 240V charger, the Porsche Taycan can go from 0-100% battery in approximately five hours, which is hours less than many of its closest competitors, including the Tesla Model S.

At a DC Fast Charging station, the Porsche Taycan will recharge 10-80% of its battery in around 22.5 minutes. This is far less time than the Tesla Model S requires when using the Tesla Supercharger network. More importantly, the Porsche Taycan can hit a maximum charging rate of 270 kW compared to the maximum of 200 kW for the Tesla Model S.

The Porsche Brand

One of the best aspects of buying a Porsche Taycan is that you are doing so with the quality of the Porsche name standing behind the vehicle. For over 90 years, the Porsche brand has prided itself on producing some of the highest-performing sports cars on the market. Vehicles like the Porsche 911 Turbo are legendary as some of the fastest production cars ever to be available, and it’s with this history in mind that Porsche built the Taycan.

As soon as you take the keys to a Taycan vehicle, you know you are doing so with a brand that embraces performance and innovation as the keys to its success. All of these benefits and branding have combined to help Porsche build an incredibly loyal fan base.

Iconic Design

When you look at electric vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.4 or the Hyundai Ioniq 5, if you didn’t know any better you might not be able to immediately identify their manufacturers. With the Porsche Taycan, you immediately recognize this is a Porsche. Throughout the Taycan’s design, Porsche has maintained its iconic design.

Right away, Porsche’s well-known oval headlights and slanted hood scream that the Taycan is a Porsche vehicle. You won’t even need anyone to wait until they are close enough to see the Porsche emblem at the very bottom of the hood. Of course, Porsche certainly implemented some small changes with the Taycan body to improve some of the aerodynamics with the Taycan and help it cruise down the road a little smoother. Regardless, every image of the Porsche Taycan immediately gives away which manufacturer is responsible for this EV.

Personalize Your Taycan

As a broad theme across the reasons why you should purchase a Porsche Taycan, personalization across the variety of models available is a big, big reason. If you just want the basics, you can go with the standard black or white exterior colors, or you can opt to go with other fun colors like yellow, green, violet, gold, gray, silver, brown, and even a funky green style.

Porsche also offers four different packages with the Taycan Sports, SportsDesign, Technology, and Premium Plus packages, all of which bring something different to the driving experience. Some of the features available with these packages include power-adjustable seats or you can opt for the 18-way sports seats with memory package and four-way lumbar support. The technology package adds features like adaptive cruise control or a heads-up display.

The standard Porsche Taycan offers a four-seat layout but you can opt for a model that includes a second-row middle seat as well.

Wrapping Up

Let there be no doubt the Porsche Taycan is one of the best electric vehicles on the planet available today. Across these 10 reasons, it’s almost obvious why the Porsche Taycan should be your next EV.

With a starting price and infotainment experience that easily beats the Taycan’s closest competitor, the Tesla Model Y, the Taycan may very very well be the EV supercar to beat for the foreseeable future.
