Volvo, Polestar’s parent company, is not new to the automotive industry. It has been in operation since 1927 and boasts some of the best-selling models. However, Polestar is only a few years old — it was launched in 2017. Polestar has yet to have a dozen models under its belt. Still, it seems to cement its position in the EV market with every release, and the Polestar 3 is no different. Unveiled in 2022 and set to be shipped globally in Q2 2024, the Polestar 3 has been met with critical acclaim among EV lovers and enthusiasts. In fact, some people anticipate the Polestar 3 will be the closest competitor to Tesla SUVs: the Model X and Model Y.
So, is the Polestar 3 a good buy? We believe so, and this is why!
History of the Polestar 3
The history of the Polestar 3 is built on the success of the Polestar 2. Unveiled in February 2019, the Polestar 2 was the first fully electric EV from the Swedish manufacturer. EV enthusiasts quickly hailed the Polestar 2 as one of the best-performing electric cars on the market. This EV went on to win at least 100 international industry awards.
Following the success of the Polestar 2, the Swedish manufacturer sought to release more EV models. In 2022, Polestar announced it would launch a new EV annually. During the launch, Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO, hailed the Polestar 3 as an SUV built for the electric age. He emphasized that the only way to unlock the full potential of EVs was to approach their designs differently from those of gas-powered cars. With the Polestar 3, the manufacturer accounted for stance, aerodynamics, and proportions to design an EV that checked the performance and comfort boxes.
Unfortunately, Polestar has yet to start shipping the EV globally. However, you can pre-order the Polestar 3 today. It has an MSRP of $83,900.

As we noted, the Polestar brand is only a few years old. However, it has access to some of the most advanced technologies thanks to its relationship with Volvo. Polestar combined hardware and software safety measures to achieve an almost foolproof “capsule.”
For example, the Polestar 3 has 12 ultrasonic sensors, five radars, and five cameras that scan its surroundings and warn the driver of impending danger. It also has two driver-monitoring sensors and four interior radars to monitor the occupants. The in-cabin sensors alert drivers not to lock the doors when there’s still a passenger inside. Should the driver override the warning and lock the doors, the sensors alert the car’s computer system to keep the climate system on. This ensures the car remains habitable, which protects the occupants against dangers like hypothermia or stroke.
#7: You Can Choose Between Two Trims
The Polestar 3 has two trims: Long Range and Performance Pack. This provides an alternative option for buyers who may not like a specific trim. For example, the Polestar 3 with the Performance Pack has better power (517 hp) and torque (671 lb-ft) than the Long Range trim (489 hp and 620 lb-ft). It also has a better 0-60mph acceleration (4.6 sec vs. 4.9 sec). However, the superior performance comes at the expense of the expected range.
Buyers who want a performance SUV can choose the Performance Pack. In contrast, those looking for a utility car for work or family use may buy the Long Range trim because of its extended range.
