Mercedes-Benz introduced the world to the Vision EQS at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019. The concept Vision EQS would inspire a new line of Mercedes EVs built from the ground up instead of repurposing existing Mercedes models’ platforms.

The first car built on the platform was the Mercedes-Benz EQS. It is a luxury EV targeting high-end buyers. However, Mercedes saw the need to expand the EQ line to corner a larger EV market share.

They unveiled the Mercedes-Benz EQE at the 2021 Munich Motor Show. It was followed by the first EQE coming off the production line in 2022 and going on sale in 2023.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the EQE, like the EQS, is built around the “one bow” design. Though the design has been criticized for producing unflattering vehicles, its intended purpose was to reduce the aerodynamic drag in previous models.

Drag is the force that goes against a body’s movement as it accelerates through air. A vehicle’s drag is quantified using the drag coefficient (Cd). Mercedes claims that the EQE has a 0.22 Cd, one of the lowest drag coefficients of any car in the world.

The car weighs 5,534 lb, so it’s almost 1,000 lb heavier than the Tesla Model S Plaid but only slower by 1.2 seconds.

Tesla Model S

Tesla boasts one of the largest EV market shares in the United States and globally. This is thanks to popular Tesla EVs like the Model S. A standard Model S moves from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The fastest trim, the Tesla Model S Plaid, accelerates from 0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds. This will give any driver an adrenaline boost and get their heart racing. Regarding range, the Model S can get to 326 miles on a single charge. This is significantly better than most EVs in the market.

Another reason to buy a Tesla Model S is the Tesla Supercharger Network. The network comprises over 36,000 chargers across the US. Plugging into a supercharger can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

BMW i4 Gran Coupe

BMW has been manufacturing EVs since 2011 through its BMW i Division. One of the latest offerings from the division is the BMW i4 Gran Coupe based on the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe. It is available in three models: the BMW i4 Gran Coupe eDrive35, eDrive40, and the i4 M50. 

Depending on the model, the BMW i4 can reach a range of 301 miles. This is slightly better than the Taycan and close to the range of a Model S for a lower price. Regarding performance, the i4 M50, the most powerful model, puts out 536 hp. This propels the car from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Polestar 3

Polestar is a relatively new entrant in the EV manufacturing business. However, the brand has proven disruptive thanks to attractive offerings like the Polestar 3. The car has a starting price of $75,000.

The Polestar 3 is available in two trims: Long Range and Performance. The Long Range offers approximately 379 miles of range, while the Performance offers around 348 miles.

This range is substantially better than most EVs that are in direct competition with the Polestar 3. The Polestar 3 puts out 489 hp, which propels it to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. It also has a top speed of 130 mph.
