  • The picture quality on all three brands of Frame televisions is fantastic, with 4K quality across the board.

When it comes to buying a new television, the huge array of options can completely overwhelm even the most technical among you. Between OLED, QLED, mini-LED, 4K, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and other features, there is a lot to consider. Things do get a little easier if you want a specialized TV that shows wall art like a Frame TV.

The Samsung Frame TV, Amazon Fire TV QLED,  and the LG Gallery are some of the models that can perform this feature. Unlike many TVs that show a black screen when turned off, these models do something entirely different. By showing art or pictures on a screen, these Frame TV models offer a creative way to add to your home’s decor.

What Is a Frame TV?

First and foremost, it’s important to know that “The Frame”  is actually the name of Samsung’s version of this television. LG calls its TV model “Gallery,” while also offering a higher-end spec sheet compared to Samsung’s model. For its part, Amazon has included wall art tech on its 65 and 75-inch televisions as part of its Omni QLED series. Amazon labels it as an “Ambient Experience,” so every TV manufacturer calls this tech something different.

Using “Frame” as a general term for this article basically highlights the ability to use wall art when a TV is not in use. At least this is the general understanding of what these TVs can do. Ultimately, they all offer some kind of different features across their various smart interfaces. However, as far as wall art, all of these TVs can turn into a canvas when not in use and add a little something extra to a wall in any room.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, keep reading for more reasons why you should buy a Frame TV today.

Reasons to Buy a Frame TV Today

#1: Beautiful Wall Art

The addition of beautiful wall art with a Frame TV is undoubtedly the single most important reason to choose one of these televisions. Depending on which model you pick from which brand, it can arrive with thousands of preloaded art options. Alternatively, you can add your own art and pictures that can be displayed when the television is turned off.

With this wall art option, these television sets are able to seamlessly transform from a super thin wall-mounted television to an art and conversation piece. All too often a television you buy these days is your traditional black box with a screen. These Frame models help reduce the idea that a TV is nothing more than a black box.

Instead, you can use Samsung’s Frame or LG’s Gallery to create an art gallery right there in a family or living room. Even Hisense showed off its upcoming M1 model at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2023. While not yet available, this model is a definite rival to Samsung, LG, and Amazon.

#2: Super Slim Designs

As thin as televisions have become over the years, these wall art-based televisions are even thinner. For Samsung, The Frame TV, its primary model with an art gallery, the super slim design is incredible. Samsung provides a wall mount in the box that helps the TV sit flush against a wall.

In other words, you don’t need to see any cables if you are comfortable running cables through a wall. If not, you only have to worry about one cable as its “Invisible Connection” cable connects all of your HDMI-connected devices.

For its part, LG offers similar design features and “effortlessly blends” into your wall according to LG. LG also offers a similar single-cable approach where you will only have one visible cable at most once plugged in. For its part, Amazon doesn’t focus on a flush-against-the-wall design, but it’s a thin television all the same. Until the Hisense model is released to the public, it’s hard to say how thin it will truly be. However, press and public photos from CES 2023 in January show off a super slim profile and flush wall mounting.

#3: Customizable Bezels

One of the most prominent highlights of Samsung’s Frame TV is the customizable bezel choice. Unlike traditional TVs which always come with a black bezel, Samsung has gone a different route. Whether it’s modern white, modern brown, beige, or sand gold metal, there is something for everyone. When placed on the TV, these bezels completely change the look and feel of the whole television.

As soon as you hang it on the wall, you quickly forget it’s even a TV. In fact, you might just think it looks like a very fancy piece of art that also functions as a 4K TV. Unfortunately, LG, Amazon, and Hisense don’t appear to follow suit with different bezel choices. This is definitely a plus for potential Samsung Frame TV buyers.

#4: Great Picture Quality

As great as these TV models are for appearing as art, they are first and foremost televisions. Given this, you still have an expectation of 4K quality and you get exactly this. LG, in particular, offers its Gallery feature on a host of its top-of-the-line television sets. The popular LG C2, LG C3, and pretty much any OLED EVO TV by LG are all equipped with the Gallery feature.

What this means is you get LG’s arguably best-in-class OLED picture experience along with a host of other features. Whether it’s 4K picture quality, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, or picture brightness, LG typically delivers outstanding picture quality. LG also provides some of the deepest blacks around. This helps ensure movies and games look their absolute best on Gallery-enabled models.

Samsung rivals LG quality with its own Frame television sets. With The Frame, Samsung works to provide an enriched picture with deeper black on its most recent Frame model. You get more vibrant-looking colors, near-infinite contrast, and clarity that is hard to beat across movies and TV shows.

#5: Smart Connectivity

As is the case with many popular televisions, all of these Frame models can have smart features. Between Tizen with Samsung, webOS with LG, Fire TV with the Amazon Omni series, and Hisense’s upcoming M1 model, there are plenty of smart features around. The good news is that none of these televisions lack the smart features of other TVs in their respective lineups.

Between access to all of your favorite streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, there is always something to watch. You can also control all of these televisions through various voice commands through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant

Both Samsung and LG also have brand-specific features like Samsung Health or other fitness features. There is always something smart about all of these TVs, which gives them parity with non-Frame models.

#6: Change Your Art

For the Samsung Frame TV, having such a deep selection of art is such a wonderful addition. With the built-in Art Store, Samsung has curated various art collections. Whether it’s In The Wild, First Day of Summer, or Shape and Form, there are many different art pieces to choose from.

Even though some of these are paid options, having them available allows you to build up an art library over time. With the knowledge you are likely to keep your television for years, purchasing a half dozen or dozen different art selections is well worth the investment.

Alternatively, with LG, Samsung, and Amazon, you can use your own photos as well for one giant family photo. Perhaps you want to play photos from a recent vacation or a kid’s birthday party. Having the ability to display your own photos is a huge bonus. Of course, you can also choose from one of the 1,500 included art pieces with Amazon’s Ambient Experience.

Whether it’s art or photos, having the ability to change things up is really invaluable. This will ensure you don’t feel as if you are constantly looking at the same wall art for months on end. Instead, make a change once a week and keep things interesting.

#7: Conversation Piece

When you buy a regular non-Frame style TV, it is unlikely you will have a conversation about it with friends. In the case of the Frame, Gallery, or Omni TV, when they display wall art, it’s an instant conversation piece. Friends and family of all ages will be wowed by the different art pieces or family photos that can be displayed.

It’s definitely a unique feature that hasn’t typically been something people expect out of a television. Things can only get more conversational when you show them it’s still a regular TV as well. In fact, Samsung and LG might want to consider making buyers of these TVs affiliate marketers as word of mouth will help drive more sales.

#8: Ambient Light Sensors

If you’re wondering how all of this technology works to show off wall art, it’s all about ambient sensors. In the case of Amazon’s Omni televisions, the “presence sensor” will activate if motion is detected. When no motion is detected, the Ambient Experience kicks on and begins to display wall art.

The same case for Samsung as the television’s motion sensor can be set up to activate when you are in the room and turn off when no motion is detected. This way you can not only showcase what’s possible with these TVs but also save energy. The last thing you want is an additional expense from leaving wall art on all the time.

#9: Good Looking Televisions

While the Amazon Fire Omni TV doesn’t offer a ton of difference from other models in the lineup, Samsung and LG are super sharp. The dedicated Samsung Frame TV, in particular, is very good-looking. When used off the wall, you can set it up in any corner and run the cables through the legs of the stand. It’s a wonderful design that shows off the likely future of television cable setups.

For LG, the design of its TVs with its almost disappearing bezels just looks incredible. LG TV design has always been a best-in-class experience, but the Gallery has been beautiful. Between super thin bezels and flush-against-the-wall designs, it’s just a good looker on your wall.
