8 Reasons I’m Buying an HP Victus Gaming Laptop

Gaming Laptops with the Best Battery Life

8 Reasons I’m Buying an HP Victus Gaming Laptop

When you think of gaming laptops, the first brand names that come to mind are Acer, ASUS, and Razer. For its part, HP is a computing giant and is moving to be bigger into gaming with its Victus gaming laptops. With both the HP Victus 15.6 and HP Victus 16 models, anyone looking for a budget-friendly gaming laptop should be very interested.

While it’s certainly easy to push HP Victus models up in price, a starting price of the HP Victus 15.6 at $699 retail is attractive. The good news is that you can easily find this same model on sale through Amazon for less, which adds to the argument HP Victus is a superb deal. With this in mind, let’s look at reasons to consider the HP Victus as your next gaming laptop.

Great Value

A man changes the position of a block with symbols of growth and decline near the word Price. Price regulator, supply-demand balance, market laws. Economics and free commerce. Planned Economy.
The best aspect of owning an HP Victus gaming laptop is how well they are priced.

The easiest argument in favor of buying an HP Victus gaming laptop is absolutely the overall value. As I mentioned above, the MSRP of $699 is an absolute steal for a gaming laptop. Only the Acer Nitro 5 can come close in value alongside the HP Victus 15.6-inch model. At the $699 price, you can get a 12th gen Intel Core i5 processor or an AMD Ryzen 5, both of which are powerful enough to handle everyday gaming and multitasking.

When you consider a starting GPU with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650/2050 and better, the value becomes more evident. For example, you can pick up an HP Victus 15.6-inch model with the AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS and a GeForce RTX 2050 for only $669 on Amazon. Plus, you get 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD.

Oh, and you also get Wi-Fi 6 and USB-C charging. I’m not sure how anyone could argue this isn’t a great value for a gaming laptop.

Strong Performance

Ryzen 3600 vs 5600x
With both Intel and AMD Ryzen options, HP Victus owners should never be desperate for better performance.

Piggybacking on the value argument in favor of HP Victus gaming laptops is the overall performance you receive. As I noted above, with a CPU choice between Intel Core i5 and AMD Ryzen 5 (or above), you get high-performance processors that can be scaled up to easily tackle AAA titles.

Additionally, with the faster processor, you get the side benefits of being able to navigate your day-to-day multitasking needs with ease.

More importantly, if you want to play games like Elden Ring or Baldur’s Gate 3, you need some serious hardware. Well, you can easily scale up your performance to an HP Victus 16-inch model. With this laptop, you have a 13th-generation Intel Core i7 plus the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU.

For a little perspective, at right around $1,200, this model is roughly the same price as the MacBook Air M2. However, you get far better performance for gaming with the HP.

Good Looks

HP Envy X360 Laptop
HP has a long history of making excellent-looking computers, including the HP Victus lineup.

This may not be a primary reason for many people, but I am someone who values a computer’s good looks. Too many gaming laptops these days are made with science fiction in mind and it doesn’t always work. Alternatively, other gaming laptop manufacturers may try and throw more than just a few RGB lights at a gaming laptop. In both cases, sometimes less is more.

HP knows this, so its two Victus model sizes are available with simple designs. You won’t find any bright colors or distracting science fiction body styling, just a svelte laptop that can fit in both the boardroom and bedroom.

I also consider getting a number pad with the 15.6-inch model a bonus for anyone who wants to multitask with spreadsheets between gaming sessions.

Keyboard Excellence

The HP Victus typing experience is one of the best aspects thanks to HP’s long laptop history.

Alongside the HP Victus gaming laptop’s good looks, there is also the strength of its keyboard. While it’s true the keyboards do include RGB lighting, the focus is how great the key travel is. The amount of tactile feedback you can find is really among the best in the budget-friendly gaming laptop space.

There is just something that feels very precise about using HP Victus keyboards. I am not surprised by the keyboard experience as HP has had decades to perfect its laptops. HP labels the keyboard as “mica silver” and it works so well alongside its Imagepad touchpad.

Lots of Choices

HP Victus Amazon
Amazon offers many different HP Victus configurations to best match your budget.

While I have mentioned the HP Victus gaming laptop comes in both a 15.6-inch and 16-inch model, there are multiple configurations available within these sizes. A cursory glance at Amazon indicates you have a few dozen different configurations available.

The best approach with the HP Victus gaming laptop lineup is to identify your top-line price and go from there. There is little question in mind that you can find a configuration that meets and potentially exceeds your expectations. Between sizable amounts of RAM and SSD storage that starts at 1TB, you won’t be left wanting for much more.

This is especially true if you want to tackle games from 30 years ago and games from 3 months ago. As I have hinted at above, you have your choice among different GPU performances to pick a laptop that will handle AAA games well into the future.

Refresh Rate

refresh-rate
Having different refresh rate options allows HP Victus owners to choose their favorite preferences.

It won’t come as much of a surprise in the gaming laptop world, but HP Victus models start with a 144 Hz refresh rate. Of course, you can also look at models that include both 165 Hz or 240 Hz for increased motion blur reduction. The higher the refresh rate, the larger the price tag, but that you can find a great value with a 144 Hz refresh rate says a whole lot about how good HP Victus laptops are.

What’s more, HP pairs its 240 Hz Victus gaming laptops with the NVIDIA GeForce 4060 GPU, so you get strong performance across the board.

Even if most of the HP Victus lineup offers Full HD 1080p screens, they still offer excellent resolution and vibrant colors. Of course, you can also pair this higher refresh rate with a small number of HP Victus 16-inch models. These models include QHD displays, which means even better color reproduction.

Thermal Management

Best PC Build Kits
Being able to properly manage your HP Victus fans will prolong the life of your laptop.

While you have never owned a gaming laptop before, you have likely heard what fans can sound like. Well, good news for anyone looking at HP Victus gaming laptops. Drawing on its long history of laptop making, HP includes the OMEN Gaming Hub software across its Victus lineup to give you full control over your laptop’s temperature management.

This means you have access to tweak settings and find the best possible performance levels depending on your gaming preferences. Perhaps you want to dynamically adjust the fan speed. You can easily do this with the OMEN software. You can also explore undervolting your CPU and GPU to reduce how much heat is generated. This step limits how much performance is reduced depending on game requirements.

The bottom line is that your HP Victus laptop gives you an unusually strong level of control over thermal management. This is very much a good thing and a definite reason to consider buying a Victus machine.

Upgrade Away

eMMC vs SSD
HP Victus laptops make it very easy to upgrade both RAM and storage.

As is traditionally found within the gaming laptop space, the HP Victus lineup allows you easy access to upgrade both RAM and storage. In most cases, you can upgrade RAM across both the 15.6 and 16-inch Victus lineup to 64GB of RAM. This is more than enough for just about every gaming need.

As far as SSD upgrades, you have two M.2 PCIe x4 slots on the HP Victus 16 to upgrade away. Except in more extreme cases where you must have a large number of the latest AAA games installed on your laptop, you shouldn’t have many issues with storage after upgrading.
