What do The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Poker Face have in common? Well, apart from all being great comedy shows, they’re all available on Peacock! Courtesy of NBC, Peacock features some of the hottest shows around, but the fun doesn’t end there. As well as sitcoms guaranteed to make you laugh, you’ll find top films, sports, and even the news on the channel. But is it available through DirecTV, and how exactly do you access it? We’re going to answer these questions down below.
First, though, if you’re looking for some great alternatives to DirecTV, take a look at our recommended streaming services.
How to Watch Peacock On DirecTV
The good news is that you can definitely watch your favorite Peacock shows through DirecTV. This is true whether you’re on their Satellite or STREAM plan. You’ll have to subscribe to the Peacock Premium or Premium Plus package as an add-on. These are priced at $4.99/month and $9.99/month, respectively. Well, that’s usually the case. Fortunately, the Premium package is available to DirecTV customers with a 40% discount, bringing the monthly cost down to a very attractive $2.99. It’s a shame, though, that there’s no offer on the ad-free version. You’ll have to weigh up how important that advantage is to you.
To grab the discount, you’ll need to sign up directly through your DirecTV account, using these steps:
Step 1: Login to Your DirecTV Account
To start, log in to your DirecTV STREAM or DirecTV account.
Step 2: Go to Package Settings
Next, choose the “Manage My TV Package” option.
Step 3: Add Peacock
If you’re using DirecTV STREAM, simply scroll to the “Premium Networks” section and choose Peacock from the list. Otherwise, choose “TV”, and then “Add on Peacock”. Agree to the terms, and the discounted price will be added to your monthly DirecTV bill. Easy!
Once you’re a Peacock subscriber, you can download the Peacock TV app to begin watching. The method for this differs slightly depending on whether you’re using a set-top box or the DirecTV Gemini box. Either way, you’ll find the steps below.
Step 1: Go to Apps
If you’re using a set-top box, you’ll want to go to the apps menu by pressing the home button. With a Gemini box, press the “APPS” button on your remote, and then go to the Google Play Store.
Step 2: Download Peacock
Once you’re in the apps menu or Play Store, search for “Peacock” and download. After it’s finished installing, log in using your signup details, and you can start streaming.
Must-Watch Shows On Peacock
The Blacklist
The Blacklist is not only one of NBC’s longest-running thrillers but also one of the most successful shows to come out in the last 10 years. The original premise revolves around James Spader’s character, Raymond Reddington, a US Naval officer who sacked off his military life to pursue a life of crime. Becoming a highly sought-after fugitive, Reddington decides to cooperate with the FBI to catch some of their most wanted criminals. The show took many twists and turns throughout its 10-season run but has consistently been rated highly by both critics and viewers.
Yellowstone
The Dutton family stars as the central characters in Yellowstone as owners of the titular ranch, the largest of its kind in the whole U.S. This contemporary take on the tried-and-true Western genre features themes such as family drama, conflicts over power and ownership, and nuanced anti-hero characters. Lauded as being relatable and giving airtime to the often ignored working class through its storylines. Even if Cowboys aren’t first on your list, Yellowstone is that sort of gripping show that could easily be your next binge-able watch.

The Office
The U.S. rendition of the much-loved hit UK TV show The Office came onto our screens in 2005 and brought its own unique flavor. While the UK version has a distinctly more cynical, sarcastic, and British feel, the U.S. show goes with a more lighthearted touch. This ultimately works in its favor. The characters in The Office U.S. feel more relatable and fleshed out, which is in no small part due to the considerably longer time that the show ran for. Arguably, Steve Carell is largely what makes The Office so great. But overall, this is a wholesome and highly acclaimed sitcom that you won’t want to pass up.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Police procedurals are undoubtedly plentiful, but none are quite as off-the-wall as Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This quirky sitcom stars funnyman Andy Samberg and the multi-talented, super hilarious Chelsea Peretti (fun fact: they actually went to school together), alongside a slew of eccentric detectives. While the show wasn’t an immediate hit, it quickly gained popularity as the seasons went on. It’s definitely worth adding to your list if you’re craving some laughter.
Chucky
Peacock’s show roster can be pretty varied, as shown by the modernized sequel to the gory Child’s Play series. Fans of the franchise will be delighted that Brad Dourif is once again reprising his role as the voice of the cursed doll. But the character surprisingly takes more of a backseat this time around. Although squeamish viewers should probably look elsewhere, this series offers a fresh but faithful twist on a cult classic.
Based on a True Story
It’s safe to say that all things true crime are a hot topic nowadays. There’s something uniquely entertaining (and sometimes oddly calming) about digging into some true crime, be it in the form of a documentary, podcast, or dramatized TV show. And the protagonists of Based on a True Story capitalize on the zeitgeist’s morbid fascination. This comedy-thriller is aware of the nuance around this interest, however, and provides a refreshingly satirical take on the dubious lengths the everyday sleuth can go to.
A Friend of the Family
Now, unlike the previous one, this show really is based on a true story. If you remember watching the documentary Abducted in Plain Sight, the terrible details of the case of Jan Broberg will seem familiar to you. This awful kidnapping from the 1970s gets re-imagined in A Friend of the Family. The show unearths never-before-seen revelations while staying conceptually true to the source material. If the real story wasn’t dramatic enough, prepare to be fascinated and dismayed by this mini-series.
Poker Face
Fans of anthology series will love Poker Face. While each episode centers around a different crime-filled mystery with a fresh cast, the constant is Natasha Lyonne (of Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black fame). Lyonne stars as Charlie Cale, a woman with a talent for uncovering lies. Part drama, part comedy, watching Charlie wrap up each case with a satisfying bow will keep you coming back for more.
Wrapping Up
Peacock is available for both DirecTV Satellite and DirecTV STREAM customers. However, you need to subscribe to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus. While the Plus plan offers ad-free streaming for the vast majority of shows, the Premium package is available at a hefty 40% discount for all DirecTV customers. By signing into your DirecTV account and navigating to the apps section (or Google Play Store), you can download and install the Peacock app and find loads of brilliant programs to choose from.
