What Is Paramount?
While Paramount Pictures began as a film studio in the very early 1900s, today it’s part of the huge Paramount Global company, which is home to a lot of the media you know and love. In addition to the titular Paramount Network, the conglomerate distributes the BET, CBS, and CW networks, as well as MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and more. An interesting fact about the picture company is that the original logo featured 24 stars surrounding it. These represented the original roster of actors and actresses employed by the company.
The Paramount Network was originally launched as The Nashville Network in the early 80s, focusing on programs that were targeted at Southern culture (i.e., country music and motor racing). Over the years, programming would change to revolve around entertainment in general, and eventually around the action genre after a rebrand as Spike TV in the early 2000s. Shortly after its final evolution into its namesake in 2018, Yellowstone premiered. It then quickly became a flagship drama show for the network.

Top Paramount Shows to Watch
Apart from Yellowstone, the Paramount Network mostly airs nostalgic reruns. So, chances are you’ll recognize a lot of the programming. But as a heads up, here are some of the best shows to watch on the network, as well as the Paramount Plus app.
This hit show follows the lives of the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in the U.S. As you may have guessed, the ranch in question is near the iconic Yellowstone National Park. The program explores the myriad of struggles the Duttons face due to conflicts with neighboring forces, and the contrast between modernity and tradition. Family ties, status, and power feature heavily as well, making this an engrossing and unforgettable watch.
If you love makeover shows with a hospitality theme (think Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares), then you’ll be a fan of Bar Rescue. Instead of Ramsay, we’ve got Jon Taffer, a “nightlife consultant”. His mission is to bring restaurants and bars back from the brink of failure. And surprisingly, he pulls even fewer punches than Gordon. So much so, that even Ramsay fans sometimes find Taffer hard to stomach. But if you’re in the mood for a screaming match, then Bar Rescue will deliver the drama you’re after.
Ink Master is still classified as reality TV, but follows more of a competition format than Bar Rescue. The style is similar to other competition shows like Blown Away and Skin Wars. However, the contestants this time are all tattoo artists. Each week, the competitors face challenges, with one being eliminated during every episode. As expected, guest judges are usually acclaimed tattooists. These celebrities join the core judges in analyzing and judging the tattoo artists’ performance in the challenges. Any fans of tattoo art and competition shows shouldn’t give this a miss.
The Paramount Network is available for all DirecTV customers, regardless of the package you’re part of. This network is also home to the hit Western show, Yellowstone. By going to channel 241, you can watch live programming, or select on-demand shows by tuning into 1241 instead. If you want to have access to a fantastic selection of TV shows, movies, and original programs, a membership to the Paramount Plus streaming service is a great option. This will require a separate subscription, but you can stream this collection on your TV via the app or casting technology.
