On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S22 features a smooth, albeit not as smooth as the ThinkPhone’s, thanks to a 120 Hz refresh rate. Just like the ThinkPhone, the Galaxy S22 also supports HDR10+ video playback, and videos are detailed and bright on the AMOLED screen. Overall, both the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the Motorola ThinkPhone feature great displays, but the ThinkPhone takes the edge thanks to the higher refresh rate.
Design
Design is an important factor in picking a smartphone, it will affect the practical use of the smartphone. When we took a look at the design of the Motorola ThinkPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S22, we found some key differences that we wanted to highlight for you.
Starting with the Motorola ThinkPhone, the design is focused on both durability and practicality – similar to the Lenovo ThinkPad series of laptops. It features a reinforced casing that can withstand the elements and is dust-proof and water-proof.
Still, it also features the iconic ThinkPad textured matte backing, which provides an added element of safety to the ThinkPhone in the form of a non-slip grip. Buttons are displayed in the standard Android phone places, featuring red accents to complete that ThinkPad look.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S22 features a more sleek design, with a glass back and an aluminum frame that gives the phone a high-end look and feel but isn’t extremely durable like the ThinkPhone. You can get the Galaxy S22 in a wide range of colors, including black, white, and pink.
Regarding the size of both smartphones, the ThinkPhone is bigger than the Galaxy S22. This is largely due to the reinforced chassis of the ThinkPhone. We found that it wasn’t as pocket friendly as the Galaxy S22, but it was by no means an uncomfortable carrying experience. The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, fits into pockets easily and is compact enough to be comfortable in all sizes of hands.

Hardware Features
Looking now at the mobile hardware that both of these smartphones run on, we find both the Motorola ThinkPhone and Samsung Galaxy S22 impressive. The ThinkPhone does pull ahead with a more powerful and updated chipset.
The Motorola ThinkPhone is built around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which is more powerful and power-efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that is featured in the Galaxy S22. The updated chipset translates to a better experience handling demanding tasks without draining the battery as much.
Regarding the built-in memory, the ThinkPhone once again pulls ahead with 8GB and 12GB LPDDR5 RAM options available in the configuration. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S22 only features 8GB of the new LPDDR5 RAM. The ThinkPhone’s larger RAM configurations are ideal for multi-tasking and running memory-intensive applications, showing off the ThinkPhone’s business-first smartphone capabilities.
Cameras
Taking a look at the cameras, the ThinkPhone boasts a 50MP rear camera and a 32MP selfie camera. At the same time, the Galaxy S22 features a triple-camera setup shooting at 50MP and a built-in telephoto sensor that can zoom up to 3X. In terms of the selfie camera, however, The Galaxy S22 falls behind the ThinkPhone with a 10MP camera.
The ThinkPhone’s camera system is well-suited to video conferencing and taking detailed photos. In contrast, the Galaxy S22’s main camera is ideal for photography enthusiasts or creatives who want to capture high-quality images with better depth and clarity.
Battery and Charging
Battery life is one of the most important things to consider when deciding between two new smartphones. The Motorola ThinkPhone boasts a large 5,000 mAh battery, which is significantly bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S22’s 3,700 mAh battery. This was a noticeable impact on the overall battery life of both phones.
The ThinkPhone will last users two days with regular use, and even heavy users should be able to get a full day’s use out of the ThinkPhone. We also were pleased by the fast charging on the Motorola ThinkPhone. Some early adopters reported that it can fully charge in as quickly as 45 minutes, with Motorola’s official claim that the ThinkPhone charges in one hour to 100%.
Compared to the battery performance of the ThinkPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S22 falls short. While Samsung claims that the Galaxy S22 should last a full day, users have reported that with standard use, the S22 only lasts between seven and eight hours.
There is 25-watt fast charging available for the S22, but we would be remiss not to mention that you will need to purchase the 25-watt adapter separately. If you truly want full-day performance with the Samsung Galaxy S22, it’s a good idea to buy the fast charger, but either way, you will need to have a charger on hand if you are out for more than eight hours.

Software Features
The Samsung Galaxy S22 comes with the newest Samsung One UI 4.1, which brings the Smart Widget feature to the S22 and allows users to stack up to seven different widgets or applications that can be cycled through by swiping the screen left or right.
You also have a new multitasking interface, which lets you view multiple apps at once in a split-screen view. This greatly improves the experience of using the Galaxy S22 and makes the phone ideal for efficient multitasking.
