As we all know, Samsung has built its reputation in the foldable series by releasing masterpiece after masterpiece. However, now is the time for real competition, as Motorola has entered the market with its latest foldable series.
Motorola released keypad-based foldable phones in 2003 and 2004, so this is not a new concept for them. They’ve come up with the same idea yet again. Even so, this time, they are better equipped with many new features because their competitor is a tech giant.
This article will compare the Motorola Razr 2022 to the Samsung Z Flip4 to see who is leading the foldable phone market. The Samsung Z Flip4 belongs to an excellent product line that has already raised the bar with its unrivaled features.
The Z Flip4 is one of the best foldable phones because of its features. On the other hand, Motorola Razr must prove itself as it competes with the current tech giant. Let us compare them side by side to get to know them better.

Motorola Razr vs. Galaxy Z Flip4: What’s the Difference?
With each Z Flip model release, people are taking Samsung foldable phones more seriously and considering them mainstream devices rather than a prototype. As a result, Samsung is considered the current market leader in foldable phones, with two distinct foldable series: Z Fold and Z Flip. However, Motorola has entered the market with its best foot forward with the Motorola Razr series.
On August 10, 2022, Samsung announced the Z Flip4, a clamshell folding iterative improvement over the Z Flip3. The following day, Motorola announced its own Razr 2022 phone. The Motorola Razr adds more features than the Samsung Z Flip series and is beginning to compete with its incredible price offerings.
- Dual-SIM
- Foldable P-OLED, second external G-OLED display
- Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4 nm)
- 256GB Storage, 8GB RAM
On the other hand, Samsung, which had undisputed market leadership for a few years, now faces healthy competition. You may be wondering what the difference between the two phones is.
So, to avoid confusion, let’s make a clear and unbiased comparison of both phones based on their features, such as processing power, memory, display, camera, battery endurance, design, pricing, and so on.
Design
The Samsung Z Flip4 has a premium design, one of Samsung’s specialties. Although there is no noticeable difference between the Z Flip4 and the Z Flip3, the design of the Z Flip4 remains its most vital point.
Samsung protects it with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, an armored frame, as well as dust and water resistance with an IPX8 rating. Samsung guarantees that your phone and data will be safe if it falls into 1.5 m of fresh water for 30 minutes.
Blue, Bora purple, Pink gold, and Graphite are the four vibrant colors for the Z Flip4. If you don’t like any of these colors, Samsung allows you to customize your phone with 75 available options on a Bespoke edition model.
In terms of design, Samsung has made little effort and has stuck with the Z Flip3 layout. However, the overall appearance improves with flatter and more squared edges where Samsung has neatly placed the camera, power button with intelligently placed fingerprint option, centralized punch hole front camera, and stereo speakers.
When comparing the Motorola Razr 2022 to the Z Flip4, you will notice that it does not have an IPX rating but does have a water-repellent coating. Although the Motorola Razr has a large screen that also houses the punch-hole camera, it only has standard Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, which is not as protective as the Z Flip4 Victus.
Its exterior features a dual camera, stereo speakers, sound buttons, a USB jack, and a power button with a fingerprint sensor, just like its competitors. Both devices are small and portable, but Samsung wins in this category.

Display
Motorola has included a 6.7-inch main and a 2.7-inch exterior display, allowing the Razr 2022 to provide a Full HD experience to users who enjoy watching movies or playing high-resolution games.
It has an adaptive refresh rate of 144Hz, which is ideal for meeting the expectations of its customers. You don’t have to unfold this phone every time you put it in your pocket because its 2.7-inch OLED display has plenty of space to accommodate camera displays and notifications.
The Samsung Z Flip4 has a 6.7-inch primary screen with a full-HD resolution comparable to the Motorola Razr 2022. However, it has greater brightness than its predecessor and can dynamically adjust its refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz, which aids in battery conservation. The Motorola Razr model lacks a dynamic refresh rate.
Regarding the exterior display, you’ll get a 1.9-inch screen, smaller than the Z Flip, but adequate for meeting all your notification needs, such as appointments, SMS, missed calls, and other requests.
Samsung has made significant efforts to make the Z Flip an ideal candidate for outdoor use, and it outperforms the Razr due to its larger screen and higher brightness.
Performance
With the latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC under the hood, both phones are capable of high-end gaming, streaming, and running multiple applications simultaneously.
Due to using the same chipset, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Motorola Razr 2022 offer octa-core processing power, a similar GPU of Adreno 730, and storage capacity offerings of 128/ 256/ 512 GB.
- Stereo speakers, 32-bit/ 384kHz audio
- Nano, eSim
- Foldable Dynamic AMOLED
- Android 12L / One UI 4.1.1
- Octa-core CPU
Unfortunately, neither device supports extended storage via SD Card, but with this kind of internal storage capacity, we can easily overlook this shortcoming.
The only noticeable difference is that the Motorola Razr comes with a 12 GB RAM option which, combined with the lower pixel density, helps it outperform the Samsung Z Flip in this category, which only has an 8 GB RAM option.
Camera
Both phones significantly differ in this category, with the Motorola Razr 2022 having a 50-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/1.9 aperture capable of capturing any type of 4K/ 8K video or clicking high-resolution pictures.
It does not have a camcorder mode, but with these outstanding camera capabilities, your phone is no less than a camcorder.
If you enjoy taking selfies or using your phone for video calls, the Motorola Razr is an excellent choice because it has a 32MP front sensor, one of the most powerful selfie cameras available on any clamshell phone.
On the other hand, the Samsung Z Flip4 combines 12MP with f/1.8 and 12MP ultra-wide with f/2.2 aperture cameras that provide optical image stabilization and dual-pixel autofocus capability.
However, it still falls short of the performance of the Motorola Razr. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has a 10MP camera on the front, which falls short of the competition.

Battery Life
After learning from the past, Samsung has embedded a 3700mAh battery in its Z Flip4 phone, which can charge your phone to 50% in 30 minutes. It also has wireless and reverse wireless charging capabilities. It is worth noting that the Z-Flips reverse charging option allows you to easily charge your earbuds and smartwatches.
Taking the Motorola Razr into consideration, you can get a 3500mAh battery, which does not match the Z Flip4 but is not enough to place the Razr in the bottom row of this category.
Despite having a relatively small battery size, Razr can compete with the Z Flip4 because it has a surprisingly long battery life and fast charging capabilities thanks to the 30W wired charger.
Operating System and Other Software
Both phones have different priorities regarding the operating system and other software. Although both phones run Android 12, Samsung prefers One UI over Android, which has a larger footprint, whereas the Motorola Razr prefers to keep things simple with MyUX.
Motorola Razr comes with only two operating system upgrades, whereas Samsung intends to provide four to five updates to cover a long software support period.
Pricing
The Samsung Z Flip4 was released in August 2022 with a starting price of $999; they have taken preorders at the same price as its predecessor.
On the other hand, the Razr 2022, released the day after the Z Flip4, comes in various price ranges due to its multiple variants, such as a phone with 256 GB storage that costs $1140, while the 512/ 12GB variant costs a little more.

Motorola Razr vs. Galaxy Z Flip4: Which One Is Better?
It is undeniable that Samsung currently rules the foldable phone market. Having released its first clamshell phone in 2020, this gives them an edge over Motorola. Even still, Motorola has been making phones that fold since the early days of cellphone technology.
Motorola released its first foldable smartphone, the Razr, in 2020, competing with the earlier Z Flip models. With two years to improve the design, the Razr 2022 is a strong competitor to the Samsung Z Flip4.
Although both phones have many similarities regarding hardware, they differ in many ways. For example, the Motorola Razr has a better camera, faster charging, a higher refresh rate, and a larger external display.
On the other hand, the Samsung Z Flip has a cleaner design, a larger battery, wireless/ reverse wireless charging, and more customization options. Not to mention, you can use the phone while it’s partially folded, allowing you to use it as a kickstand to take pictures. The Razr is lacking in little details like this so, in our opinion, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is more worth your money.
