Motorola Edge vs. iPhone 14: What’s the Difference?
The Motorola Edge and iPhone 14 both have solid value for the price, but the question is, which phone has more value? Mostly, this will depend on the kind of features and tech you’re looking for. Let’s break down the specific differences between the two phones below.
Display
The display of the Motorola Edge is almost equal to that of the iPhone 14. The Edge has an AMOLED display that is 6.5 inches and has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. The iPhone 14, on the other hand, has an OLED display that is 6.7 inches and has a much better resolution of 1,290 x 2,796 pixels. As such, the iPhone 14 has a better aspect ratio of 19.5:9 compared to the 20:9 aspect ratio of the Edge. The iPhone 14 also has a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, while the Motorola Edge only has a maximum brightness of 500 nits.
All of this is to say that the iPhone 14 has a much better display than the Edge, and the only advantage the Edge has is the refresh rate. The Edge has a refresh rate of 144Hz, while the iPhone 14 only offers 120Hz. Even though the Edge has an advantage with its better refresh rate, the Edge’s response time of 13 ms is significantly slower than the iPhone’s 1 ms.
The iPhone also has a much better screen-to-body ratio of 88.3% compared to the 86.2% of the Edge, and we believe it’s much more secure thanks to the ceramic protection. The Edge only has Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which cannot match the iPhone’s ceramic shield. All in all, the iPhone 14 has a much better display than the Motorola Edge.
Specifications and Performance
The Motorola Edge is powered by a Snapdragon 778G Plus processor, while the iPhone 14 is powered by a proprietary Apple A16 Bionic processor. Even though the Edge has an octa-core processor CPU, Apple’s hexa-core processor CPU offers much better performance and speed. The benchmark results show that the iPhone can deliver 63% better performance.
When it comes to RAM and storage options, the Edge lets you choose between 6GB and 8GB, while the iPhone comes standard with 6GB RAM. Both smartphones offer identical RAM specifications, which include 4 channels and the LPDDR5 type.
As for storage, the Edge smartphone lets you choose between 128GB and 256GB, while the iPhone 14 offers 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1,024GB as standard. Neither smartphone has an external memory card slot.

Design and Build Quality
The Motorola Edge is made of a plastic frame with a glass back, while the iPhone 14 has a metal frame with a glass back. Therefore, the Edge is 3 ounces lighter than the iPhone 14, which weighs 8.47 ounces, even though the Edge is slightly smaller than the iPhone 14. However, the iPhone 14 has a much better screen-to-body ratio and better display quality, which is a clear difference between the two.
The iPhone 14 has a much better waterproof rating of IP68, which means it has a waterproof case. The Motorola Edge, on the other hand, only has an IP52 rating, which means that the Edge is only protected against dust ingress.
Both smartphones also come in different finishes. The Motorola Edge is available in silver, blue and green, while the iPhone 14 is available in black, silver, gold, and purple.
In terms of design and build quality, both smartphones are pretty similar, but the iPhone 14 has a slight advantage due to the use of metal on the sides, a better IP rating, and a better screen-to-body ratio.
Front and Rear Camera
Reading the specs, you might think that the Edge has a much better camera than the iPhone 14, but the opposite is true. Yes, the Motorola Edge has a 50-megapixel main camera compared to the iPhone’s 48-megapixel camera. However, the iPhone 14 has much better camera control with additional features like 3x optical zoom, while the Edge only has digital zoom.
With such a camera, the iPhone 14 can record 4K videos at 60 FPS, while the Edge can also record 4K videos but only at 30 FPS, making the iPhone’s 4K videos 50% smoother and clearer. The Motorola Edge’s advantage, however, is in a slow-motion recording. The Edge can record slow-motion videos at 960 FPS at 720p, while the iPhone can only record slow-motion videos at 240 FPS at 1080p resolution.
The iPhone 14 also has more lenses: wide-angle, telephoto, ultra-wide-angle, and depth lens. The Edge only has 3 lenses, which include wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and depth lens. The wide-angle lenses of both smartphones are quite similar and don’t differ much, but the main difference is the telephoto lens, which the iPhone 14 has while the Edge does not. The iPhone 14 also offers RAW support for its camera, which the Edge doesn’t have.
When it comes to the front camera, the Motorola Edge offers a much better selfie camera. The Edge has a 32-megapixel camera compared to the iPhone 14’s 12-megapixel front camera. The Edge has a much better image resolution of 6,464 x 4,864p compared to the iPhone’s 4,032 x 3,024p resolution. However, the iPhone 14 has a much better aperture of f/1.9 compared to the Edge’s f/2.4 aperture. Also, the iPhone 14 can record videos in 4K at 60 FPS with the front camera, while the Edge can only record 1080p videos at 30 FPS with the selfie camera.
Additional Features
Besides additional features, we also put other necessities and accessories to the test, such as the battery, Bluetooth, wireless charging, eSIM technology, security, and other small details that could change the way you use the smartphone.
The iPhone 14 has a much better battery due to its slightly larger body, as it can integrate a 4323 mAh battery, while the Motorola Edge only has a 4020 mAh battery. The iPhone 14’s battery lasts a bit longer than 16 hours, while the Motorola Edge’s battery lasts a bit less than 6 hours.
Of the additional features to compare, the iPhone 14 has a better Bluetooth version (5.3) than the Edge (5.2). The iPhone 14 can also be charged wirelessly, while the Motorola Edge doesn’t support this feature. iPhone 14 also supports eSIM technology, while the Edge doesn’t include this feature.
In terms of security, the Motorola Edge has a fingerprint sensor integrated into the display, while the iPhone 14 has a facial recognition sensor. Both sensors are secure enough, but the iPhone’s facial recognition sensor is a bit more sophisticated and is an upgrade from the older fingerprint sensor technology.
