Why Should You Buy the LG 27GP950-B 27” Ultragear UHD (3840 x 2160) Gaming Monitor?

High-end gaming monitors offer several advantages over their budget counterparts, including:

  • Higher resolutions display games in greater detail, which improves the overall gaming experience.
  • Faster refresh rates reduce blur and tearing by updating the image more often so it appears smoother and more fluid. This is particularly important in fast-paced games.
  • Better color reproduction improves the overall visual experience.
  • More features such as variable refresh rate (VRR) and HDR support make gaming more realistic and immersive.

This high-end gaming monitor features a 27″ Nano IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel. Nano IPS technology delivers vibrant, accurate colors with wide viewing angles, so you don’t have to sit directly in front of the monitor to get a clear view of your game. This feature is particularly useful when multiple people are sharing a screen for gameplay or collaborating on content creation.

The screen also features a 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, resulting in sharp, detailed images. Its 1m (GtG) response time (the time it takes for a pixel to change from one shade of gray to another) ensures that the monitor can keep up with images in fast-paced games. And its high refresh rate (144Hz) means that you’ll enjoy a smoother gaming experience.

The monitor supports NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync technologies, which reduce screen tearing and minimize stutter.

The screen is virtually borderless on four sides. And you can adjust the monitor by raising, lowering, tilting, and pivoting the screen until it’s “just right” for your style of gameplay.

Is the LG 27” Ultragear UHD (3840 x 2160) Gaming Monitor Worth It?

We compared the LG 27” Ultragear Gaming Monitor (list price: $899.99) to two other high-end, 27″ gaming monitors: the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQN ($1,299.99) and the Acer Predator XB273U GX ($1,199.99).

The LG features a Nano IPS panel which offers a slight advantage over the other two monitors’ Fast IPS panels. Nano IPS is better because it covers a wider color gamut (98% DCI-P3 vs. 95% for the other two monitors), contrast ratio, and response times.

All three monitors feature a 3840 x 2160 resolution, a 1ms (GtG) response time, and VESA DisplayHDR 600. They all have a VRR that’s supported by NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible, AMD FreeSync Pro.

The LG has the lowest refresh rate at 144Hz vs. 170Hz for the Asus and the Acer.

Plainly, the three high-end monitors in our lineup are evenly matched. The LG has a slight advantage due to its Nano IPS panel, but it also has the lowest refresh rate. Even at its list price, it’s the most affordable option. At its sale price of $596, it’s a steal.
