LG G3 vs. Sony A95K OLED: Which is Better?

Television is part of the American fabric. Its visually interesting, fast-moving, and highly entertaining style commands people’s attention for several hours daily. Unfortunately, buying a new television might feel a bit overwhelming. Prices vary widely for TVs of the same design, shape, and size. Moreover, TV manufacturers and salespeople use alien-sounding technologies, extra features, and hyperbolic claims about the picture and sound quality to get you to spend more. Lucky for you, LG G3 and Sony A95K OLED are the latest high-performance TVs to hit the shelves.

Sony released the A95K in 2022 as its flagship model, and it was also one of the first QD-OLED designs available to its customers. LG G3, on the other hand, is yet to be released, with more details coming around spring. However, LG has given a sneak into the TV details, and it looks like it will be one of the premium 4K OLED designs.

LG G3 vs. Sony A95K OLED: In-Depth Comparison

Price

Normally, new tech commands premium pricing, and that’s what we expect with LG G3 and A95K OLED. The 65-inch version of A95K OLED is currently $3198, and the 55’’ version is going for $2798.

The LG variant has not yet released the expected prices for the TVS.  However, since this will be their flagship model for the year, we expect it will be the priciest of all its variants. Its predecessor, the G2, retailed at an MSRP of $2999 for the 65-inch before it was discounted. The G3 pricing wouldn’t be far from this.

Remember that the Sony A95K OLED comes in fewer sizes than the LG G3 – just 65-inch and 55-inch models, whereas the G3 adds 83-inch and 77-inch models.

Design and Build

No matter how incredible your TV’s picture quality is, you’ll still need a good-looking set. Be rest assured that both of these TVs are lookers. The G3 sports slimmer bezels than its predecessor, the G2, 6mm down from 11.5mm for the 65-inch model. This gives the screen a more expansive, cleaner look.

It’s also super thin and intended to be hung flush to walls. Plus it’s bundled with a wall mount rather than a stand. However, you can purchase an official stand separately, though it’s costly. If you’re searching for a cheaper option, you might have to consider a third-party stand compatible with the G3’s VESA mounting.

Sony’s A95K, on the other hand, has a slightly thicker screen, but the set ensures it delivers an impeccable statement from all angles.  The front ensures that the screen ratio is high with a 0.0625of an inch bezel around it and a thicker bottom band with the Sony logo and a set of lights. The rear panel protrudes another inch with mounting holes for those who’d wish to place it on the wall.

If you don’t opt for the wall mount, the A95 comes with a single-piece, arch-shaped stand. The TV comes with two supports that are screwed onto the stand before screwing the TV in. While the stand is heavy and the installation cumbersome, it makes the support sturdy and stylish.

Remember, the A95K needs to be placed on a deeper and wider platform for safety purposes. You can also wall mount it with a detached stand. The screen’s bezels are narrow, so they don’t detract from what you’re watching, while the wire channels keep your cable in check.

Features

The G3 and A95K both feature an Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for low-latency gaming. Both screens are compatible with Nvidia G-Sync, but only the G3 supports AMD’s FreeSync Premium.

The G3 has four HDMI 2.1 ports for 5K gaming at 130Hz with a bandwidth of 78Gbps. The A95K, on the other hand, has two such ports, one of which is reserved for the eARC port. You can own a PlayStation 5, an eARC-enabled soundbar, and Xbox Series X. Plus, one of your next-generation consoles can run through your sound system.

The screens offer similar HDR support, including Dolby Vision. The G3 and A95K can also decode Dolby Atmos, as well as DTS:X audio.

Smart Features

Both TVS are smart and unique because of the designs of their smart platforms. The G3 will run the latest version of webOS. The WebOS23 is an advancement over the one in G2. It is advantageous because its home screen is well-designed, reducing the need to scroll down to find your favorite streaming service. It also has quick cards that allow one to quickly access services such as gaming, smart home, or even sports scores. There are ads on its home screen, but you can navigate easily with webOS, and it zips swiftly and effortlessly.

The A96K uses a simple and rich Google TV smart platform. The Google TV is a darling to most TV users because it has a quick navigation panel that allows easy searching. It displays your major titles in an array, then your favorite apps below that. It also features shows you should continue watching in your library. In addition, it also has Google Assistant to search for new shows on your phone and computer. So, you’re safe if you depend on the A95K’s built-in features for daily streaming. With the A95K, you also enjoy new functionalities made possible by the Bravia camera. It is small, sits on the screen, and communicates with the OS to change the TV brightness, color, and sound based on the room’s conditions. You can also use it for video chatting.

Sound

Thanks to the upgrade in the G3’s processor to the α9 AI Gen6 chip, it will be able to deliver 9.1.2 surround sound from the built-in speakers. Also, by connecting to the latest LG Soundbars, you can benefit from the WOW Orchestra feature, which uses all of the audio channels on both the TV and the soundbar.

However, the G3’s sound may not measure up to that of the A95K straight out of the box, as it features Acoustic Surface Audio+. This can combine two actuators and two subwoofers that vibrate the entire TV to create a sound. The actuators are larger than those of the A907 and are optimized for the new QD-OLED panels.

It sounds incredible, as bass notes are weighty and punchy, with great control over the delivery. Turn the volume levels to the maximum, and you’ll hear a little brittleness and fizz, but we’re referring to deafening volumes for comfort that most screens can only dream of.

The delivery has plenty of clarity and detail too. Plus, the sound is linked to the on-screen action for an extra level of immersion.

Picture

The most significant selling point for the LG G3 is the brightness. LG has invested in a new light control architecture that is an improvement from their previous Booster max tech for brightness. The brightness increases by 70% compared to previous traditional OLED models. However, a full review of the picture quality will be possible after the TV release and testing.

The A95K OLED images have excellent depth with impressive three-dimensional qualities. It has a fine sense of solidity — the result of brilliant contrast, excellent sharpness, and loads of fine details.

While the LG G3 promises better brightness, it’s the details within the brightness where the A95K may win. It may have more detail and color volume than the G3 in the brightest part of the pictures. While the A95K isn’t brighter than most OLED TVs, it produces a better standard of brightness.
