LG G3 vs. LG QNED TVs: What’s the Difference?

LG has built televisions that are nothing short of impressive, including in their QNED TV lineup. The LG G3 was at the epicenter of the CES 2023, promising consumers new technology that will improve their viewing experience.

LG QNED TVs have been in the market for a while now, and the LG G3 comes with several updates and tricks up its sleeves. While there are noticeable differences from a visual comparison like size and design, there are many more distinctions that separate them. Let’s break them down in detail below.

Design

One of the distinctive differences between the LG G3 and LG QNED TVs is the design and overall look. LG ditched the Gallery Series for its 2023 television lineup, but the LG G3 may be considered a Gallery Series because of its design.

The LG G3 has a clean and sleek design built for wall mounting with extra thin metallic bezel frames that give the TVs a premium feel. With the G3, LG guarantees zero gaps between the wall and the TV, allowing it to sit flush against the wall. With this sleek and minimalist design, you can create a gallery look by displaying your photos and artwork while the TV is off.

LG QNED TVs have also been designed to fit nicely in your space. They have a super slim design that will enhance your home interior. However, how they hang on the wall is not as flush as the LG G3. Unfortunately, the LG G3 TVs have only a wall bracket in the package, minus a stand. These, however, are optional and can be purchased separately.

Performance

The highlight of the LG G3 lineup is the brightness boost max that will make the TV 70% brighter than previous OLED televisions by LG. This is definitely something to consider when deciding which TV to purchase. The Micro Lens Array panel in the LG G3 is nothing short of immersive and impressive. This cutting-edge technology uses billions of micro lenses to efficiently focus light from the panel to your eyes, improving brightness.

LG QNED TVs do not fall behind in performance as they stack up exceptionally well. The Mini LED panel improves the brightness of the TVs and enhances the blacks while giving different levels of contrast. There’s a caveat, however, as there is still a tad blooming around bright white objects, but nothing too distracting.

The Alpha 9 Generation 6 Processor is the newest addition to the Alpha series processors and will power the LG G3. The processor makes the LG G3 somewhat superior to earlier LG QNED TVs that use α9 AI Processor Gen 5, α9 AI Processor Gen 4, α7 AI Processor Gen 4, and α7 AI Processor Gen5.

The Alpha 9 Generation 6 Processor makes images and textures sharper and clearer by accentuating the edges of objects. The technology also allows for improved upscaling, thanks to the sophisticated AI-assisted Deep Learning technology.

Smart Features

The LG G3 and LG QNED TVs have different versions of the same operating platform. The webOS 23 in the LG G3 is only an improved version of the previous webOS 22. It comes with a slightly redesigned home screen meant to improve the overall functionality of the TV and allows you to fine-tune the home page on the LG G3 to suit your needs better.

Instead of scrolling down as much as you would with older LG QNED TVs, webOS 23 makes it easier with the new “quick cards” that will aid in finding content outside of TV shows like smart home options. The option also allows you to group your favorite apps in categories which will help you easily find what you are looking for. Save for quick cards, the LG G3’s WebOS 23 has more improvements, including AI concierge, matter support, and navigation.

Connectivity

LG always ensures to provide a myriad of connectivity options with their televisions. While the LG G3 and the LG QNED TVs have several of these, they differ slightly from each other. LG announced at CES 2023 that, for the first time, the LG G3 would support HDMI 2.0 QMS.

Like previous LG QNED televisions, the LG G3 will have four HDMI ports. The QMS technology will ensure smoother transitions and eliminate the black screen when switching between refresh rates and content from different sources. The LG G3 will have an additional USB port from the conventional two in the LG QNED TVs.
