Some key differences exist between the iPhone 14 and Motorola Razr. Comparing their respective cameras, sizes, weights, screens, prices, internal specs, and other features will put things into perspective. Ultimately, you will know which smartphone is superior.

Camera

Firstly, the camera quality of the iPhone 14 vs Motorola Razr. It wouldn’t be a smartphone without a few high-quality cameras, would it? The iPhone 14 base model has a dual set of 12MP cameras on the back side, and another 12MP camera on the front end. The Motorola Razr 2022, by comparison, offers a dual set of 50MP cameras on the back and a 32MP camera on the front. The more megapixels your camera has, the richer your image. With this in mind, the Motorola Razr far exceeds the megapixel count of the iPhone 14.

Size and Weight

Both phones have different dimensions and weights. The iPhone 14 measures 5.78 inches by 2.82 inches by 0.31 inches in size and weighs just 6.07 ounces. The higher-end 14s increase these specs significantly, but the base model 14 remains small and light. The Motorola Razr, by comparison, measures 6.57 inches by 3.14 inches by 0.29 inches when unfolded. It shrinks to 3.4 inches by 3.14 inches by 0.67 inches when folded. It weighs nearly an ounce more at 7.05 ounces in all.

Screen

Moving away from size, how do their screens compare? The iPhone 14 and Motorola Razr offer two very different screen sizes (not to mention screen types). The iPhone 14 boasts a 6.1 inch OLED screen with Super Retina XDR. Comparatively, the Motorola Razr offers a 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED screen. Motorola Razr’s screen is bigger and has a foldable feature. AMOLED also looks better than OLED proper, giving the Razr yet another advantage.

Price

iPhone 14 has a higher price tag, but the Motorola Razr is somewhat without a paddle. Customers have no point of reference for its high price point, seeing as the phone has only recently revived. With this in mind, the iPhone 14’s base price is $799, whereas the Motorola Razr’s base price starts at $ 1,189. Prices often go down with phone plans and individual cell service provider deals. Motorola Razr is a good $300 more than the iPhone 14.

Internal Specs

Camera quality, size and weight, screens, and price are undoubtedly important to the iPhone 14 vs Motorola Razr debate, but internal specs matter too. The iPhone 14 utilizes the A15 Bionic chip, one of the most advanced smartphone systems-on-a-chip in the industry. The Motorola Razr uses the impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+, but Apple’s A15 Bionic is still better. Also, both have the same amount of storage options, but the Motorola Razr has more RAM.

Alternate Versions

Our iPhone 14 vs Motorola Razr comparison wouldn’t be complete without looking at their versions. The iPhone 14 offers Plus, Pro, and Pro Max variants at higher price points, while the Motorola Razr has no higher-end options. The iPhone 14 has five color options, whereas the Motorola Razr has just one. Though both offer options in total storage, only the Motorola Razr offers RAM options in addition to this. All in all, the iPhone has more alternate versions for customers.

5 Must-Know Facts About Smartphones in 2023

  • The number of smartphone users in 2023 has doubled since 2016 alone. Seven years ago, the number sat just above 3 billion users.
  • Even with the success of Apple, Samsung, Google, and Motorola smartphones throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s, no one has been able to Nokias numbers in the 2000s. The Nokia 1100 and the Nokia 1110 remain the two best-selling mobile phones of all time at nearly 250 million sold each.
  • Nearly 100% of all internet users regularly access the web via their smartphones. The exact number? 95.8%. That leaves just 4.2% of internet users who exclusively use devices other than smartphones to access the internet.

History of the iPhone 14

At this point, we can expect a new iPhone every September with as much certainty as we can expect the sun to rise each morning. Most recently, Apple continued this annual trend in September of 2022. This was when the tech giant released the first look at the iPhone 14 family. This included the iPhone 14 base model, the slightly larger iPhone 14 Plus, the much bigger and better iPhone 14 Pro, and the top-of-the-line iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Though Apple labeled the event “Far Out,” critics and Apple customers wouldn’t go to such an extreme when discussing the iPhone 14 base model. Sure, the phone has a great Apple chipset (the A15 Bionic), a bright OLED screen with Super Retina XDR, and some other bits and bobs that set it apart from the iPhone 13. But, the reality is that the iPhone 14 is as risk-free as the other recent iPhone base models that came before it. These days, Apple saves all the goodies for the higher-end models.

The Plus, Pro, and Pro Max prove this. With the Plus, Apple effectively drops the “Mini” branding it relied on for its past few iPhone families, replacing it with a return to the “Plus” variant. (It’s the first “Plus” model since the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017.) The real hot topic is the Pro and Pro Max. These two iPhone 14 variants might look like your average iPhone, but inside, they’re unlike anything in any previous iPhone generation. The most notable of these features is Dynamic Island. Ultimately, the iPhone 14 base model gets hardly any of the fun.

Return of the Motorola Razr

To be clear, this is not a comparison of the iPhone 14 vs Motorola Razr of years past. No, this iteration of the Razr — the Razr 3, the Razr 3rd Gen., the Razr 22 or the Razr 2022, depending on your particular corner of the global market — is an entirely different take on those Razrs that kept the flip phone market in a chokehold back in the mid to late 2000s. The first iteration of the Motorola Razr was discontinued in 2007, revived in 2011 as the Droid Razr, then discontinued in 2013. Only time will tell whether this second revival sticks.

The Motorola Razr, in its current form, returned to the cell phone market in 2020. Whereas the Droid Razr abandoned the brand’s iconic flip phone design, the latest iteration of the Motorola Razr has again brought it back. (It seems that the recent foldable touchscreen design popularized by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip made for the perfect opportunity to bring back the Razr brand.) Made possible via innovative AMOLED technology that can be folded and bent without breaking the screen or sacrificing picture quality, the new Razr recently entered its third generation.

Razr was released in Asia in August of 2022 and eventually made its way across Europe and other international markets throughout the remainder of 2022. The latest model is undoubtedly the most impressive version of the new and improved Razr thus far. In addition to the classic Razr look on the outside with the ingenious foldable touchscreen, the Razr 3 offers superior cameras, a better battery, a larger touch screen, and a higher amount of RAM than the iPhone 14 base model. Who knew such a throwback could compete on a technical level with Apple?

iPhone 14 vs Motorola Razr: Which Is Best?

Well, there’s a lot to love about the latest version of the Motorola Razr. While its availability is still questionable in the United States, the Razr 3 will surely be met with great reception once it becomes more widely available. However, it’s hard to name it the winner over the tried and true nature of the iPhone. Though the Razr bests the iPhone in a few key aspects, the iPhone 14 is still the winner, thanks to its chipset, availability, dependability, and higher-end options. Should the Razr stick around? Perhaps a future generation could topple the iPhone.

iPhone 14 vs Motorola Razr: Which One Wins? FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

When did the Motorola Razr come back?

After being discontinued in 2007 and again in 2013, the Motorola Razr has returned once again in 2020. After being announced in 2019, the Razr 2020 hit shelves with little fanfare. Its second generation model improved upon many of the problems with the Razr 2020, and the third generation model — set for a U.S. release in 2023 after an international release in 2022 — seems to be the best of the best thus far.

When will the Razr 3 be available in America?

The Motorola Razr 2022 — a.k.a. the Razr 3 — released in Asia in the summer of 2022 before hitting Europe later in the fall of that year. With this slow roll-out thus far, American consumers can hopefully expect to see the Razr 3 hitting shelves in the first half of 2023.

When will the iPhone 15 be announced?

Without fail, Apple seems to announce a new iPhone every single September. They have shown no signs or given any hints about plans to switch things up any time soon, either. With this in mind, we can be confident that the next generation iPhone will surely be announced in September with a release following soon after.

Is AMOLED the same as OLED?

AMOLED screens are a superior version of OLED screens for their increased picture quality and flexibility. However, both are superior to traditional mini LED or LCD screens overall. This is because OLEDs do not require backlights in order to illuminate. Their organic LEDs light up on their own when electricity passes through, making them thinner, lighter, and more lifelike in color.

Are foldable screens worth it?

Foldable screens are pretty novel in concept and work very well in function, but there are some considerable kinks that need to be ironed out if the technology truly wishes to thrive. For one, the screens begin to crease after so many folds. Not to mention, they tend to be a lot more expensive than traditional phone screens because of the pricier AMOLED technology being used.
