How to Watch YouTube Offline, Step by Step, With Photos

A lot of people watch YouTube videos daily. Most do it online on their PCs or smartphones. But do you know it’s possible to download YouTube videos and watch them offline? #1. On the Web Version

Open a web browser and search www.youtube.com to log in to YouTube. Enter your account details to continue to your YouTube homepage.

Search video and play. 

On the search bar, enter the name of the video to download and hit enter or click the search icon to search. After you locate it, click to play.

Click download to download the video.

As the video is playing, click on download below the video. The video will start downloading, and you will get a notification at the bottom left corner.

#2. On the mobile app 

This in-build feature is also available in the YouTube app on both Android and iOS. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open the video you intend to save

Search for the video to download.

Search for the video’s name on your YouTube app through the search bar. Start playing the video by clicking it.

Step 2: Download the video

Click download.

Hit the download icon below the video title when it is still playing. When prompted to choose the video quality, choose your preferred quality and hit download. The video downloads and is saved in the YouTube library. 

While this method is easy for downloading videos, it has some limitations, which are: 

  • Some videos don’t have an offline viewing option. A video you would love to download and watch offline might lack the option. You must view the video or use other download methods in this case. 
  • After downloading the video, you must get online within 48 hours or 29 days to keep the video. Otherwise, you might lose the downloaded video for not syncing. 

Method 2: Using YouTube Premium

YouTube Premium is a membership with more perks than free YouTube. One of the perks of using YouTube premium is you can download and watch videos offline. 

Have a premium subscription? Follow the steps below to download videos to your computer or YouTube app. 

Step 1: Open YouTube

Log in to YouTube’s home page. 

Go to your browser, search www.youtube.com, or open the YouTube app on your phone.

Search the video.

Type the name, subject, or creator of the video you want to download and hit enter to search. If you are on the YouTube app, tap the magnifying icon to search. Tap or click the video to play it.

Click the download icon below the video title; you’ll see a small circle next to the download icon when the video downloads. The circle turns completely blue after the download is complete. 

Now that the video is downloaded, you can access it through the YouTube library and watch it offline. Open Library, then downloads, and click on the video you want to download. Next to each downloaded video, there is its expiration date. If a video expires, select it from your download history, and it will be re-downloaded.

Method 3: Using Online Websites

Online websites allow you to paste a YouTube link and then download the video to your computer’s or phone’s internal storage. You can use these online websites: Videoder, snaptube, tubemate, y2mate.com, and Vimeo

Here are the steps for downloading a YouTube video to watch offline using y2mate.com

#1. On a Computer

Play the video.

Log in to YouTube and search for the video you intend to download. Click the video to play.

Click share below the video name, then select copy on the field with the video link to copy it.

Open a new tab and search y2mate.com to open the website.

Select a file type and size and download. 

Paste the link you copied on the field that says ‘search or paste link here’ and click start. You paste using Ctrl + V or right-click, then select paste. Select the download option next to your preferred file size and file type. 

Y2mate.com will download and save the video in your file manager’s default location for downloaded videos. 

#2. On a Phone

Open the YouTube app and locate the video. Click it to start playing.

Tap on share below the playing video, then select copy link.

Download the preferred file size and type.

Select the download option next to your preferred file type and size. This will download and save the video in the phone’s internal storage. Now that the video is downloaded to your phone’s or computer’s internal storage, you can watch it offline later. 

Method 4: Using 3rd Party Apps

Third-party apps are applications you can download on your phone or desktop and download YouTube links to your device. These 3rd party apps include SnapTube, 4K Video Downloader, iTubego, and Vidmate

Here are steps to downloading a YouTube video to view offline on a computer using the 4K Video Downloader.

Download the 4K Video Downloader app by visiting the 4K Video Downloader official website. Select Get 4K Video Downloader on the website and follow the steps to install the video on your computer. 

Step 2: Find the video to download

Locate the video to download.

Go to YouTube and search for the video to download. Click the video to get it to start playing.

Get the link. 

Scroll down on the page where the video is playing and select share. Under share, copy the YouTube video link by clicking the copy option to the left of the video link.

Paste and download.

Open the 4K Video Downloader app you downloaded and click the icon with a plus sign to open the paste field. Paste the link you copied from YouTube on this field, and the video will automatically start downloading. You can find the downloaded video in your videos folder under the 4K Video Downloader folder. 

You can watch the video offline now that it is saved on your device. 

Method 5: Using a Browser Extension

You can get the YouTube Video Downloader extension for Chrome, Opera, and Edge, among others. Unfortunately, the video isn’t available on Google’s extension marketplace, and instead, you need to get it from Addoncrop

After downloading the Video Downloader extension, it is automatically added as a button below the YouTube video. When you get a video you want to download, click on the downloader icon and select your preferred quality. The video is automatically downloaded and saved on your computer. 

When you slightly alter a YouTube link, it is easy to download a video. You can change the YouTube link by changing YouTube to ssyoutube or youpak.

Go to YouTube and open the video that you want to download. As the video is playing, scroll down and click share, then copy the link that opens in the pop-up.
