Venmo is an app that combines sending money and social media. You can see what your friends are up to and send money to your family in just a few taps of the screen. Of course, with great socialization comes great responsibility, and sometimes, we have to block people. But what happens when you want to unblock someone on Venmo?
Fortunately, the developers made it pretty easy to block and unblock people. However, before you can get started, you have to know how to do it. You can use the mobile app or the web browser to unblock people on Venmo. We’ll show you how to do both in a few simple steps. We’ll also show you a few other helpful features to better moderate your Venmo activity! Let’s get started.
How to Unblock Someone on Venmo: Mobile App
Naturally, most of us use our smartphones and the Venmo app to send money, communicate with others, and block people. Moreover, you can even unblock people using the Venmo mobile app.
Grab your smartphone and launch the Venmo app. Then, follow these steps:
Step 1: Tap Your Profile Picture
First, ensure you logged into the Venmo app with the correct account. Then, you should see your profile icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Tap it.
Step 2: Tap Settings
Your profile page will appear. You’ll see a Settings cog in the far top right corner. Tap the Settings icon to move forward.
Step 3: Tap Privacy
Scroll through the settings menu until you see the Privacy option. Then, tap it.
Step 4: Tap Blocked Users
Now you’ll see the Blocked Users option near the bottom. Tap Blocked Users to see a list of Venmo users you have blocked.
Step 5: Tap the Blocked User
Tap on the name of the user you’d like to unblock.
Step 6: Tap the Three-Dot Icon
Unfortunately, we aren’t done yet. Now you’ll see three dots in the top right corner. This is a sub-menu icon, so tap it.
Step 7: Tap Unblock User
Finally, tap Unblock User in the pop-up window. Then, tap Unblock again to confirm.
Note: iOS users will see the pop-up at the bottom of the screen and Android users will see the option in the middle.
How to Unblock Someone on Venmo: Web Browser
Perhaps you’d rather use Venmo on a web browser. If so, you can unblock someone on the Venmo website too! The process is actually a bit simpler on the website than it is on the mobile app. So, grab your computer, sign into the Venmo website, and follow these steps to unblock people:
Step 1: Click Settings
Log into your Venmo account. Then, scroll down the home page until you see Settings on the left. Click it.
Step 2: Click Privacy
After you click Settings, a new dropdown menu will appear. Click Privacy.
Step 3: Click Unblock
Finally, scroll to the bottom of the menu and click Unblock next to the Venmo user you’d like to unblock. Then, confirm you’d like to unblock the person.
All About Unlocking Someone on Venmo
Now that you’ve completed our tutorial and you’ve successfully unblocked someone, let’s take a look at what happens next. Blocking on Venmo is similar to the same feature on other platforms. It essentially means that another person can’t contact you, see your profile, and more.
Unblocking typically takes effect immediately. However, if you can’t see the other user’s profile or send/request money, you may need to log out of the app (or website) and log back into your account.
Here’s what happens when you unblock someone on Venmo:
- The user can see your profile and any current or previous transactions (including transactions with others).
- They can now block you on Venmo if they’d like.
- They won’t receive any communication or notifications that you unblocked them, but your profile will now appear in their searches.
- The other user can now see transaction details between you and them again (notes, username, date, amount, etc.).
Before you follow the steps above, be sure you’re ok with the other user communicating with you and seeing your profile/transactions. Of course, you can still block the person again if you’d like.
Other Venmo Privacy Features
If blocking someone on Venmo isn’t an option for you, there are still some things you can do to control your privacy. For example, if you don’t want others to see your transactions, you can make them all private. Follow the same steps above and go to your Privacy Settings. Then, tap Private in the first section of the screen. Now, only you and the sender/recipient can see your transaction information.
You can also change all of your past transactions to private. Again, follow the same steps above to go to the Privacy Settings and tap Past Transactions near the bottom of the screen. Tap Change All to Private and no one can see any of your past transactions (except the users involved in the transaction).
Lastly, you can stop sharing your contacts with Venmo (so you won’t automatically appear in other people’s Venmo accounts). Go to Settings as we did above and tap on Friends & Social. Then, toggle the Contacts switch to the OFF position.
We all have different wants and needs when it comes to online privacy. Fortunately, Venmo does a pretty great job ensuring we have enough options to use the service comfortably.
Unblock Someone on Venmo Wrap Up
Hopefully, you’ve made it through our tutorial and your prior foe is now a great friend again. As you can see, it’s pretty easy to block and unblock people, but the web browser method is a bit faster than using the app. No matter your preference, reconnecting with people is always great, especially when the developers make it as easy as this!
