All About Unlocking Someone on Venmo

Now that you’ve completed our tutorial and you’ve successfully unblocked someone, let’s take a look at what happens next. Blocking on Venmo is similar to the same feature on other platforms. It essentially means that another person can’t contact you, see your profile, and more.

Unblocking typically takes effect immediately. However, if you can’t see the other user’s profile or send/request money, you may need to log out of the app (or website) and log back into your account.

Here’s what happens when you unblock someone on Venmo:

  • The user can see your profile and any current or previous transactions (including transactions with others).
  • They can now block you on Venmo if they’d like.
  • They won’t receive any communication or notifications that you unblocked them, but your profile will now appear in their searches.
  • The other user can now see transaction details between you and them again (notes, username, date, amount, etc.).

Before you follow the steps above, be sure you’re ok with the other user communicating with you and seeing your profile/transactions. Of course, you can still block the person again if you’d like.

Other Venmo Privacy Features

If blocking someone on Venmo isn’t an option for you, there are still some things you can do to control your privacy. For example, if you don’t want others to see your transactions, you can make them all private. Follow the same steps above and go to your Privacy Settings. Then, tap Private in the first section of the screen. Now, only you and the sender/recipient can see your transaction information.

You can also change all of your past transactions to private. Again, follow the same steps above to go to the Privacy Settings and tap Past Transactions near the bottom of the screen. Tap Change All to Private and no one can see any of your past transactions (except the users involved in the transaction).

Lastly, you can stop sharing your contacts with Venmo (so you won’t automatically appear in other people’s Venmo accounts). Go to Settings as we did above and tap on Friends & Social. Then, toggle the Contacts switch to the OFF position.

We all have different wants and needs when it comes to online privacy. Fortunately, Venmo does a pretty great job ensuring we have enough options to use the service comfortably.

Unblock Someone on Venmo Wrap Up

Hopefully, you’ve made it through our tutorial and your prior foe is now a great friend again. As you can see, it’s pretty easy to block and unblock people, but the web browser method is a bit faster than using the app. No matter your preference, reconnecting with people is always great, especially when the developers make it as easy as this!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I block someone who blocked me on Venmo?

No. The only way to block someone on Venmo is by going to their profile. If they block you first, you can’t see their profile. Therefore, you can’t block them back.

However, if they unblock you, you’re free to block them. Of course, this can be tedious because Venmo doesn’t notify you when you’ve been unblocked. They’ll either need to communicate with you on Venmo so you’ll know you’re unblocked, or you’ll have to keep checking their profile.

Can I see everyone I have blocked on Venmo?

Yes! When you follow the steps above, you can see a list of every Venmo account that you’ve blocked.

What can I see when I block someone?

Similar to getting blocked, you can’t see the other user’s profile anymore and they won’t appear in searches. You can still see any transactions and notes between you and that person. But that’s about it. You won’t see their transactions with other people, their profile pictures, or updates.

Can I report people on Venmo?

Sometimes blocking isn’t the only recourse you must take against another account. While it will silence the user for you, they may violate the company’s guidelines or be a threat to others (scams, spam, etc.). If you come across an account that you think Venmo should know about, tap the three-dot icon and select Report (you can do this from a post or their profile).

Fill out the appropriate forms and include all the necessary information. Venmo’s support team will launch an investigation into the user and any messages or transactions you report. However, you won’t receive any updates on the investigation. The company handles reports internally while also protecting every user’s privacy.

Will someone know if I unblock them on Venmo?

No. Venmo doesn’t send users any notifications to let people know that they’ve been blocked or unblocked. The only way someone will know is if they can see your profile again or if you reach out to them on Venmo.

Do I have to re-add someone I unblocked as a friend on Venmo?

Yes. Venmo won’t automatically add formerly blocked users back to your friends list.
