How to Turn Off Eco Mode on a Roku TV

These days, Roku TVs across a variety of manufacturers come with an arsenal of settings pre-installed. This means they’re toggled on before you even have a chance to choose to turn them on yourself. Eco Mode settings are included in this. These power-saving pre-sets are a way to reduce your energy consumption (and save you a little bit of change on your power bill every month to boot). But what happens if you don’t want these settings on your TV? We’ll show you how to turn off Eco Mode on a Roku TV in just a handful of steps.

Roku designed Eco Mode to cut down on TV power consumption.

The power-saving settings on a Roku TV — sometimes grouped under the name Eco Mode, other times spread out across various settings and options — are designed to help you save energy. These power-saving settings will automatically dim your TV screen, put the TV to sleep after a designated period of no activity, and cut down on the amount of energy used by the TV during streaming. They’re intended to be both eco-friendly and user-friendly alike. This isn’t always the case, however. On occasion, Eco Mode settings have been known to do more harm than good.

While these settings undoubtedly save you energy, they might not always be the most convenient. For instance, the screen dimming feature might make it harder to see if you’re in a bright room. Plus, the automatic sleep mode could shut off the TV right in the middle of you watching something if the settings aren’t set properly. These power-saving settings are great for cutting down on your energy bill, but some would rather pay slightly more for power to enjoy a more convenient streaming experience.

Follow along with the steps listed below to toggle off your Roku TV’s Eco Mode settings. Not all Roku TVs will explicitly group these settings under the “Eco Mode” label. Nevertheless, every Roku TV has some version of Eco Mode settings hidden in its settings. Here’s how you can turn them off for uninterrupted, full-powered streaming.

Go to the Power settings, then uncheck the power-saving options.

From the list of available power settings, look for the option that reads “Auto power savings.” Once you’re there, hit OK on your remote. Then, uncheck the boxes for “Reduce power after 15 minutes” and “Turn off after 4 hours.” This will officially turn off Eco Mode settings on your Roku TV. If you ever want to turn them back on again, simply re-check the boxes.
