- The process of transferring ownership of a Facebook page is not too different for those using Facebook’s new page experience.
Facebook page ownership is a huge responsibility. No matter if your page has 100 likes, 100,000 likes, or a million likes, the task is no less monumental. From managing daily posts to keeping track of incoming messages to maintaining a good standing with the Facebook community, there’s no shortage of things to do as a Facebook page owner. In some circumstances, a situation may arise where one user must transfer ownership of a Facebook page to another user. Here’s how it’s done, step by step.
Why Transfer Ownership of a Facebook Page?
Transferring ownership of a Facebook page is not an uncommon thing at all. In fact, there are a couple of very common reasons for someone to hand over their administrative control of a page on Facebook.
For one, it may be too much responsibility for one person to handle. The bigger a Facebook page gets, the harder it becomes to maintain all the daily tasks to be done. In these cases, it’s best to transfer ownership of the Facebook page to someone more capable of handling it.
Another popular reason to transfer ownership of a Facebook page comes when a business hands over its page to an administrator who plans to handle the daily marketing and advertising duties. Whether it be a marketing department or an ad agency, you’ll need to give them admin access.
How to Transfer Ownership of a Facebook Page
Follow along with the four steps listed below to transfer ownership of your Facebook page. This process may look slightly different for those who have not switched over to Facebook’s new page experience but fear not. It’s not too far off in look or feel from the instructions we’ve listed below.
Step One: Switch to Page
First, click your profile picture in the top right corner of the page. This will reveal a drop-down menu with any pages you manage listed below. Click the page you want to transfer ownership of. This will allow you to act as the page (and change its advanced settings in the steps to come).
Step Two: Open Settings & Privacy
Now that you’ve switched to the page you want to manage, click “Settings & Privacy” in the same drop-down menu revealed by clicking your page’s profile picture. From there, click “Settings.”
Step Three: Select Page Access
On the following page, you’ll see a ton of different options to choose from. Don’t get overwhelmed: We’re looking for one that reads “Page Access.” (You may have to click “New Pages Experience” first if you haven’t made the switch over yet.) Click it once you’ve found it.
Step Four: Transfer Ownership of Facebook Page
Here, look for an option that reads “Claim this page.” Click that, then look for an option that says “Manage.” Click this, and you’ll be taken to the screen that allows you to transfer ownership. Enter the name of the person you want to grant admin responsibilities. Click their profile from the results, then click “Assign.” With this move, you have made the transfer of ownership official.
