How To Share WiFi Password On iPhone in 4 Steps, With Photos

Did you know you can share your WiFi password from your iPhone? Well, you can! It’s no secret that WiFi passwords are annoying. Most are typically random numbers and symbols and incredibly difficult to remember.

So, if you have issues sharing your WiFi password with other people (or your other devices), hang out with us for a moment. Because we’re going to make it easier.

What You Need to Share a WiFi Password on Your iPhone

As your author can attest, the iPhone WiFi sharing feature is a bit finicky. If your devices don’t meet the appropriate criteria or a problem arises, you’ll waste valuable time getting connected. Before we dive into our tutorial, let’s look at a few prerequisites and troubleshooting steps.

iPhone & WiFi Sharing Prerequisites

Naturally, Apple throws us a few curve balls when using features that make our lives simpler. Similar to removing people from iMessage groups, you must do some seemingly odd things before completing the steps below.

Here are the prerequisites:

  • Update your devices to the latest OS or OSX (Mac High Sierra)
  • Enable WiFi (both devices)
  • Enable Bluetooth (both devices)
  • Disable Mobile Hotspot (both devices)
  • Unlock the screens and open the Settings app (both devices)
  • Add each device’s iCloud email address to the other user’s contacts (Contacts>Their Name>Edit>Email Address>Save).
  • Keep devices in range of each other

While that looks like a pretty lengthy list, it isn’t too bad. Ensuring your devices meet those criteria will save you a headache later in our tutorial.

Per our testing, we did run into a few issues when trying to share a WiFi password from an iPhone. Fortunately, those were quickly resolved. If you run into issues, visit the section above to ensure you meet all the prerequisites. Then, try these fixes:

  • Restart both devices
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled
  • Verify that your iCloud email address is in your contact on the other phone and the other user’s email address is in their contact on your phone
  • Ensure the screen is unlocked and on the WiFi settings page (explained below)
  • Connect the phone giving the password to the WiFi network in question
  • Disable the mobile hotspot on each device
  • Disconnect from any existing WiFi networks on the receiving device

Hopefully, if you run into any problems below, these fixes will get you up and running.

Note: If you’ve followed all the troubleshooting steps and your devices meet all prerequisites, it may be necessary to type the password in manually. We’ll show you how to see your WiFi password on your iPhone in the last section.
