- Gmail only allows files of up to 25MB to be sent via email.
- Google Drive offers 10GB of free storage to store videos that can be sent via email.
- WeTransfer is a service that allows you to send large video files online.
Trying to figure out how to send large video files can be a pain. For many email users, video files may be too large to upload and send. For example, Gmail only allows files of up to 25MB to be sent via email. Large video files can also take up too much storage space, which can cause problems down the road. To avoid issues, here’s how to send large video files in two different ways.
How to Send Large Video Files via Gmail in 5 Steps
Step 1: Open Google Drive and Gmail
Step 2: Upload Your Video to Google Drive
You can now upload your large video file to Google Drive. This can take a few minutes to finish, depending on your file size. Google will inform you in the right-bottom-hand corner how long you have left to wait.
Step 3: Copy the Google Drive Video Link
Once your video has been uploaded, you can then get the link to send to someone else for viewing. To do this, simply click the three dots on the side of the video, then click “Share”. You will get the option to share via email, or to copy the link. We suggest copying the link.
If you choose to get the link, you’ll want to update the viewing options. This includes whether the person you send the link to can download the video, view it, or edit it in any way.
Step 4: Add the Link to an Email
Once you’ve copied the link, you can add it to an email and send it to anyone you’d like. Create a new email, choose the recipient, and add your subject header and the body of the email. Then, include the link.
Step 5: Send the Email
Once the link has been added to the email and you’ve said what you needed to, you can now send the email. Your recipient will receive the link and they will be able to click it to watch the video. It’s that easy!
How to Send Large Video Files Online in 3 Steps
If you don’t want to take up too much space in your Google Drive, you can send large video files online with a service like WeTransfer. Follow our steps to send a video this way.
Step 1: Go to WeTransfer
First, you’ll need to go to the WeTransfer website. If you don’t have an account with them, you can create one in less than two minutes by connecting your Gmail to the WeTransfer account. We chose the free account option, but you can also sign up for a paid account if you need to send more than 2GB of video data at a time.
Step 2: Upload the File and Fill Out the Message
Next, you’ll want to fill out the message that WeTransfer offers, including the recipient’s email. Then, you can click the upload button and choose the video that you’d like to send.
Step 3: Send the File
Once you’ve filled out all of the necessary information, you’ll click the “Transfer” button. WeTransfer will send the file to your recipient. Your recipient will be able to click the link that WeTransfer sends to download the video. WeTransfer will confirm that the video has been received, read, and downloaded once your recipient completes those steps.
