How to Search Twitter in 4 Steps

Twitter is the place to find people, news, funny videos, and sports updates. Dig deeper on the social media platform, and you can find anything you want. But how do you search Twitter? What if you’re trying to find an old Tweet? A trending hashtag? Or even a person?

We’ll walk you through all the steps to search Twitter and give you some helpful tips too! So, without further ado, let’s cover all of Twitter’s search options.

Tips for Searching Twitter

Before we walk through the steps to search Twitter, let’s first talk about the best ways to find what you’re looking for.

Search People on Twitter

If you’re looking for a person, you need to search for their Twitter handle. More often than not, the user won’t display their real name. However, if you know their username or Twitter handle, you can enter it in the search field and find the user quickly.

Search Hashtags on Twitter

Twitter also uses hashtags (#) to help you find the topics that interest you. If you want to know what’s happening with technology, type #technology. This method works with popular events, tv shows, and nearly everything else too.

Do a Broader Search on Twitter

Lastly, you can do a broad search for something and an advanced search. If you don’t find something you’re looking for initially, try an advanced search. Of course, you can also search Google for public Tweets or people.

How to Use Advanced Search on Twitter – Mobile App

Advanced searches are easier on the web browser than on the mobile app. As a matter of fact, the mobile app doesn’t even give us the option to perform an advanced search. Instead, you’ll need to visit twitter.com/search-advanced.

Follow the same steps we outlined above to input keywords and eliminate search options that don’t fit your needs. Then, click Search.

How to Find Someone’s Tweets on Twitter

If you’re interested in someone else’s Tweets, you can search them all using the advanced search feature on Twitter. This feature makes it easy to discover older Tweets from public accounts.

Click the Search button and scroll through their Tweets.

How to Search Twitter Trending

Twitter likes to let us know what everyone else is talking about. Your Twitter Trending feed is what many people are talking about who have similar interests to you. You can easily search for what’s trending on the web or mobile versions of Twitter.

Click the search results that interest you to explore them further.

What’s Lost Will Soon be Found on Twitter

Finding specific information, people, or things on any social media platform, isn’t always pretty simple. However, you can explore even the deepest, darkest places on Twitter by following the steps above. You only need the right keywords and a search bar to find anything.

If you tried searching Twitter and came up wanting, keep in mind that Twitter shares Tweets with Google. So, head over to Google and search the keywords you’d like to find. Then, hopefully, you can find what you’re looking for, even archived Tweets.

How to Search Twitter in 4 Steps FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Can I search Twitter without an account?

Ultimately, no. You can’t really perform a search on Twitter or turn up any tangible results without logging into your account first.

However, if the Tweeter’s account is public, you may have some luck searching Google. Google will show Tweets if the accounts are public and you know which keywords to input in your search.

How do I find my Tweets on Twitter?

If you want to search your own Tweets on Twitter, you have several options. Of course, you can scroll and scroll until you see the Tweet you want. But that takes a lot of time.

The two fastest methods to finding your Tweets quickly are by using the Advanced Search option (listed above) or by downloading your Twitter data. You can download every Tweet you ever posted by accessing the Settings and clicking the option to Download Data.

Will other people know I searched their Tweets?

No. Contrary to what many third-party services claim, there’s no way for others to know you were stalking their Tweets. However, they’ll receive a notification if you interact with their content (like, comment, or retweet).

Can I save searches on Twitter?

Perhaps you like to search for the same keywords on Twitter often. You can save your Twitter searches on a browser by searching a term, clicking the three-dot menu to the right, and clicking Save Search.

Will Twitter keep my search history?

Yes. When you click the Search option, your recent search history will appear. Anytime you search for an account or keywords, Twitter will save it for future use. This is how we know that Twitter does save our searches.
