Twitter is the place to find people, news, funny videos, and sports updates. Dig deeper on the social media platform, and you can find anything you want. But how do you search Twitter? What if you’re trying to find an old Tweet? A trending hashtag? Or even a person?
We’ll walk you through all the steps to search Twitter and give you some helpful tips too! So, without further ado, let’s cover all of Twitter’s search options.
Tips for Searching Twitter
Before we walk through the steps to search Twitter, let’s first talk about the best ways to find what you’re looking for.
Search People on Twitter
If you’re looking for a person, you need to search for their Twitter handle. More often than not, the user won’t display their real name. However, if you know their username or Twitter handle, you can enter it in the search field and find the user quickly.
Search Hashtags on Twitter
Twitter also uses hashtags (#) to help you find the topics that interest you. If you want to know what’s happening with technology, type #technology. This method works with popular events, tv shows, and nearly everything else too.
Do a Broader Search on Twitter
Lastly, you can do a broad search for something and an advanced search. If you don’t find something you’re looking for initially, try an advanced search. Of course, you can also search Google for public Tweets or people.
How to Search Twitter in 4 Steps
It’s easy to do a basic Twitter search. You can find trending hashtags, people, and topics. No matter your interest, the only thing you need to do is follow these steps:
Step 1: Open Twitter
Step 2: Click the Search Option
Twitter’s web version has a search bar in the upper right corner. The mobile app has a magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen.
Click or tap the search option to find the information that interests you.
Step 3: Input Your Search Parameters
Now, type the person’s name, a keyword, or a hashtag you want to explore.
Step 4: Search
Scroll through the list and tap the options that appeal to you.
How to Use Advanced Search on Twitter – Web Browser
Didn’t find exactly what you were looking for with the above steps? Well, you can try an advanced search on Twitter to get specific information. Alternatively, follow the steps below to access Twitter’s advanced search parameters on the website:
Step 1: Click the Search Bar
We’ll start the advanced search the same way as a regular Twitter search. Click the search bar in the upper right portion of the screen. Then, type keywords related to the content you want to find.
Step 2: Click the Menu Icon
You’ll see three dots to the right of the search bar. Click those dots to reveal a dropdown menu.
Step 3: Click Advanced Search
Click Advanced Search in the menu that drops down.
Step 4: Input New Parameters
Fill out the text fields that are relevant to your search. Eliminating irrelevant results means you won’t have to sift through so much information, making the search easier.
Helpful hint: You can also use the Advance Search menu to deselect irrelevant results.
Step 5: Click Search
After populating the relevant fields and deselecting irrelevant ones, click Search at the top of the advanced search window.
How to Use Advanced Search on Twitter – Mobile App
Advanced searches are easier on the web browser than on the mobile app. As a matter of fact, the mobile app doesn’t even give us the option to perform an advanced search. Instead, you’ll need to visit twitter.com/search-advanced.
Follow the same steps we outlined above to input keywords and eliminate search options that don’t fit your needs. Then, click Search.
How to Find Someone’s Tweets on Twitter
If you’re interested in someone else’s Tweets, you can search them all using the advanced search feature on Twitter. This feature makes it easy to discover older Tweets from public accounts.
Reveal the Advance Search option following the steps above. Then, select the From these accounts field and input their Twitter handle (@username).
Helpful hint: Use the date range to find specific dates.
How to Search Twitter Trending
Twitter likes to let us know what everyone else is talking about. Your Twitter Trending feed is what many people are talking about who have similar interests to you. You can easily search for what’s trending on the web or mobile versions of Twitter.
Tap the search option on either version of Twitter, then tap Trending. Now, you can see what everyone is talking about. You can also click the blue hyperlinks under the relevant results to investigate what’s trending with the keywords.
What’s Lost Will Soon be Found on Twitter
Finding specific information, people, or things on any social media platform, isn’t always pretty simple. However, you can explore even the deepest, darkest places on Twitter by following the steps above. You only need the right keywords and a search bar to find anything.
If you tried searching Twitter and came up wanting, keep in mind that Twitter shares Tweets with Google. So, head over to Google and search the keywords you’d like to find. Then, hopefully, you can find what you’re looking for, even archived Tweets.
