How to Redownload the App Store in 4 Steps (With Photos)

It’s such a common experience: We delete apps from our iPhone or our iPad, then, without fail, we want them back again. Most of the time, the process of redownloading an app is as simple as opening up the App Store, typing in the app name, then hitting the download button. But what if you need to redownload the App Store itself? If it sounds like an impossible task, fear not: There is a way to redownload the App Store. It’s not nearly as paradoxical as it seems. All you need to do is follow along with the steps and photos listed below.

Why Redownload the App Store?

Before getting into the steps you need to take to redownload the App Store, let’s set one thing straight first: You can’t actually delete the App Store from an Apple iOS or iPadOS device. That’s right: Your App Store isn’t gone, it’s just in a different place. (Talk about a relief.) With this information, you’ve already won half the battle. Your App Store hasn’t actually been deleted in the first place! At some point in the history of your iPhone or iPad, you’ve merely moved the App Store app from your home screen to a different location within your iPhone.

So, why bring it back, you ask? There are a couple of reasons why you might want to undo what you’ve done in removing the App Store. For one, you simply might want to download some more apps from the App Store. If your App Store isn’t on your home screen, however, you’re obviously going to run into some trouble trying to make this happen. Remember, though: It’s not gone. It has just been moved. Thankfully, with the steps we’ve listed below and the photos we’ve included along the way, you should have your App Store app restored soon.

Another reason you might want to redownload the App Store? It’s possible you might not have meant to remove it in the first place and you simply want it back. You might not have any intention to use the app or download any additional apps from the App Store. You could merely want to undo the action you didn’t even mean to do in the first place. Regardless of your reasoning, the process will remain the same. Just follow along with the steps and the photos we’ve included below, and you’ll know how to redownload the App Store in no time.

How to Redownload the App Store

With this now understood, let’s go over the steps you need to take in order to redownload the App Store to your iPhone or iPad. For the sake of this guide, we’re going to be using an iPhone. However, the process should look exactly the same whether you’re using an iOS device or an iPadOS device. (The screen’s going to be bigger on an iPad, giving you more space to move your apps around in, but that’s the only real difference here.) When you’re ready, grab your Apple device and prepare to follow along with the steps and photos below.

Step One: Go to the App Library

First thing’s first: to redownload the App Store, you need to go to the App Library on your iPhone or iPad. This can be found at the very end of your home screen pages. You’ll arrive there fastest by swiping left continually until you see a collection of app folders. You can also try sliding your finger on the search box at the bottom of the home screen, but this can sometimes take longer than simply swiping over there yourself.

Swipe left on your home screens until you get to the App Library at the top of your app folders.

Step Two: Search the App Library

Secondly, once you’ve arrived at the App Library, you’re going to need to search through your selection of apps until you find the App Store. There’s a way to do this manually, which involves searching through each individual folder in the App Library until you find the App Store, but that takes too long. The easy way? Merely searching for the App Store in the search bar at the top of the App Library. Type in “App Store” and wait for it to pop up.

Step Three: Locate The App Store

With luck, the App Store should pop up at the very top of the search results. Easy, right? Just hold on, because this is where things get tricky. As you’ll notice, tapping the App Store simply opens up the App Store app. It doesn’t actually put it back on your home screen. Sure, you’ve found a way into the App Store again, but it’s not a real solution to the problem at hand. What we’re going to do to redownload the App Store requires some careful dragging and dropping.

Step Four: Redownload The App Store

Now that you’ve found the App Store again — it was safe inside the App Library the whole time! — you need to learn how to get it back onto your home screen. To do this, hold down on the app until the apps start shaking and you see a green plus mark appear in the corner of the icon. From there, drag the App Store app out of the App Library and toward the left. This will place it back on your home screen. Drag and place it where you’d like it to be, then swipe up from the bottom of the screen to secure it in place. With this simple move, you’ve officially redownloaded the App Store.
