How To Record A Phone Call On Android In 6 Easy Steps

If you have an Android phone, you can record phone calls on your device. You can save or share the call recording as long as you have permission. This smartphone feature is handy for recording an important phone call, creating a verbal agreement, and creating a podcast interview by phone. Surprisingly, the steps are simple, and in minutes, you’ll know how to record a phone call on Android.

How to record a phone call on Android

The Android phone app has an in-built recording function. You can activate the call recorder every time you make a phone call. Follow these six steps below:

Step 1: Open the dialer on your Android phone.

Go to your smartphone home screen and open the phone app. Dial the telephone number you want to call or look up a contact and call them.

Enter the phone number you want to call on the dialer.

Step 2: Make your telephone call

The call recording function works whether you are the caller or call recipient. Make your telephone call as you would normally.

Wait for the recipient to pick up your call.

Step 3: Press the cassette icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen when the receiver picks the call

You can only start recording when a person picks up your call. A small cassette icon will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen during the call. You can start recording at any point in the call.

Tap the cassette icon on your dialer.

Step 4: Tap to start recording the phone call when the box appears

Before you start recording, a box will appear on your phone screen asking if you want to record your call. The box advises that this may be illegal in certain territories unless the other party is notified. There is also a disclaimer from the phone manufacturer.

Tap Ok to start recording the call.

If you want to proceed, tap OK. You can tap a checkbox to skip this notification on future phone calls.

Step 5: Hang up the call and the recording will end

The recording will run as long as your call continues. As the active recording continues, a timer is present to the right of the cassette symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. This timer is timing the duration of the recording rather than the call.

Tap on the end call button to hang up.

Step 6: Rename the audio recording of the phone call.

When the recording ends, a notification immediately appears on your phone screen saying Successfully saved. Beneath you have options to PLAY or RENAME the call recording. You can replay the call recording or create a more memorable name for the file.

Save and rename the call recording.

How to retrieve a phone call recording on Android

Once you have made your call recording, you can retrieve it from your Android phone, listen, and share it with others. Follow these simple steps to access your call recordings on Android:

All your audio recordings are stored in the Files app on your smartphone. You can find the call recording by tapping on the Files app to open it.

Opens the Files app.

Step 2: Open the Audio folder to find your recording

The Audio folder contains all the audio files on your Android phone. The phone recording will be listed under the Recording tab. You can tap on the recording to play it.

Go to the audio folder.

Step 3: Tap the three vertical dots to the right of the call recording file

When you tap the three vertical dots, a mini-menu with options for managing the file will appear.

Three dots are to the right of your audio recordings.

Step 4: Select Share to share the audio file

The Share option allows you to send the audio file by Gmail, messenger, Bluetooth, or NFC. Tap the Share menu option to open sharing options for your Android phone.

Tap on the Gmail app to automatically attach it to an email.

Step 5: Select Move to bin to delete your call recording

If you want to delete the call recording, open the mini-menu and select Move to bin. In the box that appears, confirm that you want to move the file to the bin. If you don’t empty the bin folder, the file will be deleted within 30 days.

Audio recordings in the bin are typically deleted within 30 days.
