How to Put Money on Cash App Card at ATM in 6 Steps (With Photos)

Cash App doesn’t allow users to add money to their card directly at an ATM, but you can try a few alternative methods. For instance, you can deposit paper money onto your Cash App Card from a participating retailer like Walgreens, Walmart, 7-Eleven, etc. Another way is to transfer cash from a separate bank account to a Cash App Card.

The good thing is that you can use your Cash Card to withdraw money from your Cash App account at an ATM. Just input your card, type the PIN, and hit Get Cash to receive money instantly.

Is It Possible to Put Money on Cash App Card at an ATM?

You can’t add money to your Cash Card from an ATM, but you can withdraw your funds from one anytime. Unfortunately, Cash App hasn’t enabled this feature yet. However, you can try different workarounds to put money on a Cash App Card.

The easiest way is to find a participating store in your vicinity and ask the cashier to deposit your paper money into your Cash App Card as a balance. But remember, the store representative might need to verify your identity, so ensure you have all the necessary items.

You can also link a verified bank account or card to your Cash App account to instantly put money on your Cash App Card. Depositing physical cash at a retail store usually comes with a $1 fee per transaction. Luckily, you can avoid it by adding your bank or card to your account and making transactions from it.

Let’s break down everything you need to know.

Why Money Can’t Be Deposited at an ATM Onto a Cash App Card

The Cash App Card is a prepaid debit card that does not have its own unique bank account. ATMs are also owned and operated by specific banks, so you can’t add funds to the Cash App Card at an ATM because it does not have an account.

Additionally, the main purpose of Cash App is as a “peer-to-peer” money transfer app, not to act as a bank account to deposit and withdraw money. There are other ways to navigate adding money to your Card without going to an ATM, which we have outlined below.

Depositing Cash at a Retailer to Put Money on a Cash App Card

Let’s start with the first alternative — depositing cash at a retailer and asking them to transfer it to your Cash App Card. This method is relatively easy; you only need Cash App installed on your phone and a stable internet connection. Once you have both things, you can easily find a retail store from your app!

Follow the below steps to put money on Cash App Card through retail deposits.

Step 1: Open the Banking Tab in Cash App

First, launch Cash App on your phone and tap the Bank icon on the left side of the bottom menu.

Step 2: Choose Paper Money

On the next screen, select the Paper Money option. Cash App will ask permission to find your location, so enable it on your phone.

Select Paper Money.

Step 3: Find a Nearby Store

The app will then display a list of participating retailers, including Family Dollar, Walgreens, Walmart, 7-Eleven, and more. See which store is the closest to your location and tap on it to get the directions. A pop-up menu will appear. Choose Directions to open the map.

You can also select Copy Address and then paste it into Google Maps or Apple Maps to get there easily. Don’t forget that Cash App charges $1 for each paper money transaction.

Find your store.

Step 4: Show the Barcode to the Store’s Cashier

As you reach the retailer, head straight to the cashier and inform them that you’re here to put money on your Cash App Card through a paper money deposit. They will then ask for your barcode to scan into their device. Simply tap Show Barcode, the green button at your Cash App screen’s bottom.

However, if you’ve closed the app, re-launch it and open the Banking icon > Paper Money > Store’s name > Show Barcode. If the cashier doesn’t know how to scan the barcode, tap Need Help on the screen’s bottom.

You don’t need to carry your Cash App Card for this purpose. Instead, the cashier will only ask for your ID for verification, and only in rare cases. Cash App generates a unique barcode every time you hit the button. It’s also available for only some time, so only tap on Show Barcode when the cashier asks for it.

Step 5: Hand Over the Cash to the Cashier

The cashier will then ask for your deposit money and ID for verification. Give them the cash you want to add to your Cash App Card. Your transaction must stay within the range of $5 to $500. Cash App has a limit of $1,000 per week on a rolling calendar basis.

Step 6: Check Your Cash App Card Balance

Finally, ensure the deposited amount has reached your Cash App Card. You will receive a notification instantly for the transaction, but double-checking it in the app is better. The Paper Money Deposit will be on the top of your transaction history, along with the store’s name that you visited.

Cash App will display the money in the middle with $1 subtracted from it as the transaction fee. You can also see the transaction’s time on this screen. There will also be a green Completed button on the bottom with a checkmark, indicating that you’ve successfully put money on Cash App Card.

Don’t forget to ask the cashier to give you a paper receipt for the deposit.
