Discord is a communications platform rather than a social media platform. Therefore, the rules of friend-making are a little different. You don’t send friend requests to just anyone on Discord. Before making friends on Discord, you must join servers or find them in video games or other social media platforms first. Fortunately, the following sections will teach you how to send friend requests and find friends on Discord. Without further ado, let’s dive in.

How to Make Friends on Discord: Being Discord-Friendly
Now that we’ve covered how to send friend requests let’s talk about some tips we use to make new friends on Discord. Of course, you can’t send friend requests without having prospects first. What you can do, however, is seek out new friends in the best places.
Here are some tips for making friends on Discord.
Join Discord Servers
The first, and probably the best, place to find Discord friends is on servers. Some servers are public, and others are invite-only, but both are great for finding new friends.
Open Discord and click the Discover icon (it looks like a compass) in the lower left corner. Then, scroll through and find servers with people who have similar interests as you. Join the servers, interact, follow all the rules, and make some friends.
Find Gaming Buddies
We’ve made the majority of our Discord friends playing video games. If you’re into MMOs like GTA V, Destiny 2, COD, etc., you will find some good buddies to play with. After meeting new and interesting people in a game, you can join their servers and make even more friends.
Of course, you can also create your own Discord server and advertise it to entice more people to come to you. Either way, games are a great place to make Discord friends.
Social Media
Believe it or not, you can find many Discord friends on other social media platforms. For example, Reddit has an entire SubReddit for people looking for friends. Join the SubReddit and make posts looking for new people to interact with with similar interests.
Of course, you can also incorporate friends from Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook! Head over to your favorite social media sites and let your followers know you’re looking for some good friends to hang out with on the site. This method is also excellent for getting accepted into invite-only servers.
Keeping Friends on Discord
Making friends on Discord isn’t worth the effort if you can’t keep them. So, let’s talk about some of the greatest things you can do to keep them.
Stay Relevant
You’ll lose a lot of Discord friends if you’re flaky or stray from topics too much. Suppose you join a Minecraft server. Keep your communications about Minecraft and contribute helpful or entertaining commentary. After all, no one wants to be in an echo chamber.
Furthermore, you must participate in the chat. Absence doesn’t make the gamer’s heart grow fonder, unfortunately. If you disappear for periods, people won’t remember you. Try participating and adding value to many conversations to make friends on Discord.
Obey the Rules
You can’t have friends on Discord if your account gets banned or you get kicked from servers. Both Discord and servers have their own rules. Look at the rules and do your best to comply, even if the rules seem unfair and don’t make sense.
Also, try to avoid conflicts. A little diplomacy goes a long way on Discord. Stay neutral and positive when possible.
Don’t Be Annoying
Do you know who has the least number of friends on Discord? Annoying people. These are people who spam chats, troll others, and send a lot of unrelated media like GIFs and images. Don’t spend time making Discord friends just to run them off with obnoxious behavior later.
Be courteous and consider how others perceive your behavior to keep your Discord friends. If you’re worthy, the server owner may even make you a mod at some point.
Wrapping Up
Is Wampus your only Discord friend? While he’s great, he isn’t the same as real friends. Fortunately, you can make even more friends on Discord by following a few simple steps. You can find likeable mutuals on servers, in your favorite games, and on other social media sites. Of course, follow our guide to keeping your friends so you don’t wind up lonely again.
