Emojis bring life to a Slack chat – we all know it. Whether it’s expressing your emotions, commemorating memorable occasions, or adding some flavor to the conversation, a well-crafted emoji is a perfect way to liven up a conversation. But why stop at someone else’s predefined emojis?
Slack allows you to upload your own emojis, meaning you can make creative and unique designs for your team. These custom emojis will appear as small images next to your messages, just like regular emojis. While making your emojis may sound intimidating, you only need the right image and a few clicks.
Adding custom emojis is an exciting way to personalize your Slack conversations and show off your creativity. This article will show you how to make your own Slack emojis with a few simple steps. We’ll also cover how you customize your workspace using emoji packs or aliases. So, let’s get started.
Key Points
- The image size should be 128 x 128 pixels and under 128KB.
- You can also add GIFs, but they should have less than 50 frames.
- You can only add custom emojis to your workspace using a desktop computer or an iOS device. Android devices do not have this feature.
- All members in a workspace except for guests can add custom emojis. The feature is available on all plans (Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise Grid).
How to Make a Slack Emoji on a Desktop
Desktops are a great place to start when creating your Slack emoji.
The first thing you need to do is to find an image you want to use for your emoji. It should be small (no larger than 128×128 pixels) and in a standard image format, like .jpg or .png. Animated GIFs are also supported but should have less than 50 frames.
If your image is larger than 128 x 128 pixels, you’ll need to resize it. You can use various photo editing software, including Adobe Photoshop and GIMP.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Launch Slack on Your Desktop
Open Slack and go to the workspace where you want to upload your emoji. Workspaces are listed on the left-hand side of the screen.
If you are in the wrong workspace, click on the drop-down next to your workspace name and scroll down to the Switch Workspaces tab.
