How to Make a Playlist on YouTube from the Web

While you can find YouTube on everything from smart TVs to smartwatches, the service began life on the web. If you want to set up a YouTube playlist through the website, follow these steps.

Step 1: Sign in to YouTube

Before you can create a playlist or upload content to YouTube, you need to sign into your account. You can do this by clicking going to YouTube and clicking on the profile icon shown on the top right-hand side of the page.

Step 2: Select a Video

Choose a video you want to save to a playlist on YouTube. You can search for it or pull it from your history, but look for the 3-dot menu on the video. Click on the dots to open a sub-menu where you’ll see an option for playlists. Select Save to Playlist.

Step 3: Playlist Options

When you choose Save to Playlist, you’re presented with a pop-up that shows any playlists linked to your account. You can save the video to an existing playlist here or click on Create new playlist to make a new one.  

Step 4: Create a Playlist

Selecting Create a new playlist gives you the option to name your playlist and set access to the public. Type the name of your YouTube playlist into the field, choose the level of privacy and click Create to finalize the playlist.

Setting up YouTube Playlists on Smartphones and Tablets

If you want to make a playlist on YouTube through the Android or iPhone app it’s just as easy as it is from a PC. You can add any video to a playlist on mobiles through the 3-dot menu as you do on the web. You can also set one up from the Library section, which is handy for recently viewed videos.

Step 1: Open the YouTube App

Open the YouTube app on your smartphone or tablet. Log in to the service under the account you want to create a playlist with.

Step 2: Select Library

At the bottom of the screen are a row of icons including one for the Library on the far left. Tap on Library to proceed.

Step 3: New Playlist

From the History screen, you have quick access to all the videos you’ve liked. You can also pull content from previous playlists you’ve made on YouTube. Select New Playlist to begin the process of creating a new YouTube playlist.

Step 4: Add Content

Now you can choose to create a playlist from your recently watched videos. Select the box next to each video you want to include and tap on Next. Set a title and permissions for your new playlist and select Create to complete the process.

How to Add Collaborators to YouTube Playlists

Adding videos to a YouTube playlist may be simple, but it can also become time-consuming. When you have hundreds of videos or a large channel to manage, you can set someone as a collaborator.

To add someone to a YouTube playlist as a collaborator you need to access the playlist section of your account. You can do this by going to the library and choosing playlists, which brings up a list of all playlists linked to your account.

Choose a playlist and then select the 3-dot menu. From the pop-up screen, click on Collaborate and flip the toggle to On. Now, you have the option to send a link from your list to people for collaboration, and anyone with the link can add videos to your playlist.
