One of the best and most efficient forms of communication available today is texting, used by more than five billion people. That’s way more than half of the world’s population!

Because of this, phone manufacturers have developed a growing number of texting options, including making texting more engaging. Android recently released a similar feature to iPhone’s, allowing you to “like” a text with an emoji!

Want to learn how to do it? Let’s break down the simple steps to like a text with an Android.

Can You Like a Text Message on Android?

You can now! It wasn’t possible for many Android phones before, due to their limitations. Many only had SMS or MMS capabilities. But with the introduction of RCS messaging — also known as Rich Communication Services, which is an advanced messaging protocol to improve SMS functionality — you can now use your Android similar to an iPhone’s capabilities.

However, to like a text message, both you and the sender must have RCS messaging enabled. RCS is ready and activated by default on the majority of recent Android smartphones. For some phones, like the Samsung Galaxy and OnePlus, your carrier must also support it. But phones like the Google Pixel 6 and up have the Google Messages app, which comes preinstalled and replaces the need for carrier support.

You’ll know if you can like a text message on Android if you go to Settings on your messages app and see Chat Features enabled. If not, you’ll need to enable them before you can utilize that feature.

Will These Chat Features Work with iPhones?

It’s crucial to remember that RCS messaging isn’t compatible with the iMessage messaging app on the iPhone. These two systems can’t cross platforms even if they offer similar features. So, items like message reacting, typing bubbles, and read receipts will not work when an Android is texting an iPhone, or vice versa.

Now, this isn’t to say that iPhones and Androids can’t text each other — they can! The iPhone will transmit the text message via SMS or MMS messages if it is sending or receiving them from a non-Apple product. Instead of the blue bubbles that accompany iMessage communications, an iPhone will display the text of SMS or MMS messages as green bubbles while sending or receiving them.

However, you can still use all the fundamental functions of texting, like including images, videos, and other multimedia.

How Do I Face Chat Between iPhone and Android?

This is one of the few features that wasn’t added with the new RCS update. However, there is still a way to FaceTime an iPhone user if you have an Android. In fact, it takes less than a minute to get connected via FaceTime. Check out this guide to learn how to facetime with an Android!

Step 3: Like the Message

When you’re ready to like a message, simply click and hold the text, and choose one of the emojis that pop up. To “like” a message, a simple thumbs up will do! But there are other emojis to choose from too.

If you want to change your reaction, simply click and hold the message to do so. This is a useful tip to keep in mind in case you unintentionally react or choose the incorrect response.

To delete the reaction, tap and hold the text and tap the same reaction you first chose. This will remove the reaction completely.
