How to Find Your Roku IP Address (Step-By-Step Guide With Pictures)

Whatever version of Roku you are using currently is a completely internet-connected device, meaning it has its own IP address. Most of the time, you will not need to know your Roku’s IP address, but if you are having networking issues, knowing your device’s IP address can help out tremendously.

Before we find out how to find your Roku IP address, let’s talk about what an IP address is. Follow along to get to the simple steps!

What is an IP Address?

An IP address is an identifier of your internet or a local network.

IP stands for Internet Protocol, which is a set of rules that dictates how data is sent via the internet or local network. Simply put, the IP address of your device is like your home address with physical mail. The internet needs a way to differentiate between all devices connected to the internet. Therefore, IP addresses are an essential part of how the internet works.

IP addresses are built in 4 parts with numbers from 0 to 255. For example, an IP address could be 192.168.1.38. IP addresses that begin with 192.168.1 are the most common prefix, followed by a number to indicate the device. For most people using a home network, you can expect your IP address to at least begin with 192.168.1

This article will cover how to find your Roku IP address through a couple of different methods. You can even get access to your Roku’s IP address without the remote, but it is easier with it.

Method 1: Using The Remote Control

Step 1: Turn on your Roku and select Settings.

To start, turn on your Roku device, and select Settings on the left-hand side menu.

If you do not have easy access to your Roku remote and have installed the Roku app previously, you are a few taps away from finding your Roku IP address.

Step 1: Open the Roku App

On your phone, open up the Roku app. Note that if you are having trouble with your Wi-Fi connection to connect the app to your Roku, both devices will need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Select Settings.

After you have the app open and your Roku connected to it, either on the Roku Channel or Channels tab, click on the Settings wheel icon in the app’s top-right corner.

Step 3: Tap System Info.

In the Settings screen, you will see an option that says System Info. On this page, you will see your IP address.

Method 3: Using a Web Browser

The last method we will talk about in this article is using a Google Chrome Extension called Remoku. Now, although this is a solution, we want to note that this app does have some problems and should be your last option if the two other methods aren’t available for you.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome.

On your computer, open up Google Chrome. If you do not already have Chrome installed, click here to install it on your computer.

Step 2: Add the Remoku Extension to Chrome.

Navigate to the Chrome web store and search for Remoku in the search bar at the top left of the page. After it pops up, click on Add to Chrome. Now, a pop-up window will appear to confirm this installation by selecting Add Extension.

Search for the Remoku extension and click Add to Chrome.

Step 3: Click on Settings.

Now that Remoku is installed, there should be a black square in the top right-hand corner of Chrome with a white R in the middle of it. Click on that square and then click on Settings.

Step 4: Scan for your Roku.

For most people’s home internet, your IP address should begin with 192.168.1. Type those into the boxes in the Settings window next to My Network. If you have a different IP address beginning, make sure to type that in above instead.

Then, type in how many Rokus you have in your home connected to the same network, then click Scan. When it finds your Roku, it’ll list it out for you, and you can find your Roku IP address.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Roku have its own IP address?

Each Roku device does have its unique IP address. However, note that this changes when the device is connected to other networks.

Can Roku be used in two locations?

Roku’s are not tied to specific locations, so as long as where you are going has an internet connection, you can use a Roku wherever you like.

How do I manually change the IP address on Roku?

Your router assigns the IP address, and there’s no way to change it manually on the Roku. Some routers will create a reservation the first time a device connects, so it always gets the same IP address.

The 4 types of IP addresses are public, private, static, and dynamic.

Is an IP address temporary or permanent?

When a device is assigned a static IP address, the address does not change. However, most devices use dynamic IP addresses, which are set by the network when they connect and change over time.
